James May could not resist taking a dig at Channel 5 star Jeremy Vine when he was quizzed about bicycles on Good Morning Britain.

Host Ben Shephard asked James if he had a penny-farthing during Friday’s instalment of the news programme as the 60-year-old discussed his passion for bikes.

As Ben asked if he had “gone old school” and rode about on the Victorian bike, James swiped: “No, I’m not Jeremy Vine, no, sorry.”

Continuing to probe, Ben said: “There are no eccentric three-wheelers or a chopper?”

James replied: “No, but I’d quite like a chopper just for, I don’t know, sentimental reasons because I wasn’t allowed one as a child.

“But no, I don’t have anything like a penny-farthing, they are all just bikes.”

Jeremy, 58, has been spotted riding his enormous penny-farthing in recent years around central London.

Last year, the presenter got his 6ft-tall bike caught in a divot which caused him to fall and break his glasses in the process.

At the time, he told Channel 5 viewers he’d “been in the wars” and did not remember anything between the moment he fell and his arrival at Charing Cross Hospital.

He said: “All’s well. I’ve been in the wars a little bit as my mum would say. I broke my glasses because I came off my penny-farthing.”

Jeremy often talks about cycling on his news programme and regularly attaches a camera to his helmet to document his travels.

He was wearing a helmet when he fell from his penny-farthing over the handlebars.

James was on the ITV show to discuss his illustrated children’s book about modes of transport, from skateboarding to kayaking and everything in between.

He also told hosts Kate Garraway and Ben how he has been building bicycles at home, but has been getting too attached to them to give them away.

As a result, he’s been accumulating them in his garage but the television star insisted they are not worth much money.

Good Morning Britain airs on weekdays between 6am and 9am on ITV and ITVX.
