New DLC will tie up loose ends from the original story

Superbrothers A/V studio (Sword & Sworcery EP) announced that its exploration adventure Jett: The Far Shore will receive a new story expansion titled Given Time as a free update on January 31. A Steam version of the game will also be available on the same date alongside the PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 versions.

Given Time will be accessible to all players, even those who haven’t completed the original Far Shore campaign. Progress will be saved separately, but the studio advises that players are better off following the original release chronology, as the story takes place three years after the original. The ending of the base game’s story received criticism for not revealing anything about the human society you are rebuilding or the fate of each respective character, but the developer assures fans that Given Time will tie up these loose ends in many interesting ways.

Just like Far Shore’s campaign, the player character Mei will utilize the flying vehicle Jett to navigate her surroundings. However, this time there is a little less emphasis on story and spoken dialogue, and more freedom for the player to explore their surroundings and the new mysterious phenomena present in Given Time’s story. The screenshots also confirm that the campaign will take the same amount of time as the original — around 12 hours — which you will spend mostly looking for rainbow resonances and hatching brine wisps hidden in many unique locations with their own individual challenges.

The original Jett was far more linear, with defined missions and locations to visit, but Given Time leans more toward the open-world exploration aspect, and players can explore the game’s world at their own pace. This can be said to be the true goal of Jett’s experience as relaxing exploration title, and Andrew Rohrmann – also known as scntfc – is also returning to provide some more sublime and slow-cooked musical scores and enhance the mood of the upcoming expansion.

Jett: The Far Shore is an adventure game inspired a range of titles such as Monster Hunter, MotorStorm: Pacific Rift, and Wave Race 64. Creative director Craig D Adams was particularly influenced by the works of Japanese creator Fumito Ueda, who previously worked on Shadow of the Colossus and ICO. The team also looked into other similar exploration for inspiration during development, like Thirty Flights of Loving, Firewatch, and Below.
