Tales of Seikyu, Another Lifesim RPG, Gets Gameplay Showcase

Tales of Seikyu is an oriental life simulation action title from ACE Entertainment. It may sound simple, but it aims to integrate the best gameplay features of notable games like Harvestella and The Legend of Zelda.

This week, developer ACE Entertainment released a 4-minute Tales of Seikyu gameplay trailer to provide an overview of what players can expect. As with other simulation titles, you can expect to go fishing, tame wild animals, craft oriental-style furniture, and, of course, harvest and cultivate crops to your heart’s content. But the game does so much more than these things because you also get to engage in combat against creatures who are a threat to your daily life!

Tales of Seikyu is inspired by the developer’s love of mythologies and cultures, which is why mythical monsters fly about and coexist with the villagers. Even though this action game primarily involves oriental fantasy, it still includes familiar creatures initially conceptualized in the West such as minotaurs and vampires. It is even possible to be in a relationship with them if you so choose…

Your Role in this Fantasy World

Tales of Seikyu is, as the title implies, set in the fantasy world of Seikyu where mythical creatures living with humans are considered normal. Here, players will come across a diverse set of NPCs to interact with and befriend as they go about their lives. There is Shuten-doji who is always drunk but for some reason, successfully runs a bar; the ‘folklorist’ Yoji who has dedicated their life to researching and knowing more about the Old Gods; and finally, Otter Andolini who used to be a Mafia boss but retired and is now tending to his dock.

Despite the seemingly serene facade, and after decades of dormancy, the Old Gods make a return. They intend to wreak havoc by intimidating the villagers with their immense powers. As someone who was not initially an inhabitant of Seikyu, your goal is to appease the God, Inari, by sprucing up an old inn and taking good care of it. Are you up for the challenge?

What is in It for You?

As someone who has been entrusted with the task of running an inn in the middle of Seikyu, you will be in charge of business operations to ensure that villagers and visitors prioritize checking in to this place more than others; beautify the rooms by upgrading the furniture; and deliver excellent service in the dining area. The last part lets you dive into the fundamentals of cooking such that you satisfy the needs and wants of your guests!

Next is the amount of puzzles available in Tales of Seikyu. What is cool about this feature is it allows you to transform into various animals, as seen in the trailer. So you can become a Wild Boar to run as fast as possible or even a Dryad to climb cliffs effectively. The idea is to utilize these animals to solve puzzles and obtain ability masks. These masks can then be used to further improve your skills.

Additionally, you will be able to get to know the rest of the villagers since there are more than 30 of them to build relationships with, kind of like in Stardew Valley. Each one of them has backstories so understanding where they are coming from and following through with your word will help cultivate friendships in Seikyu.

And what is the best part of Tales of Seikyu? Well, there is also a multiplayer option! Much like in Animal Crossing, you can invite your friends to explore the hidden secrets within your instance. They too will be able to collect certain treasures, assist in improving your farm and inn, fight enemies, and even relax by the beach. There are so many activities to do!

Tales of Seikyu Combat and Everything Else

The last feature we have not touched upon yet is combat, which resembles The Legend of Zelda’s combat structure. In Tales of Seikyu, players will bash it out against hostile creatures initially using a giant stick to do so. Eventually, they will acquire better gear along the way including samurai armor as depicted in the trailer and swords. But, we are not certain if these degrade over time or not. Additionally, there is a stamina management system to be aware of when attacking and dodging incoming attacks.
