The new DC universe is one step closer to taking flight, as Superman: Legacy is set to begin shooting next week. The Man of Steel movie is slated to hit theaters July 11, 2025.

Variety reports that Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav confirmed the production timeline on a company earnings call earlier today. Yesterday, James Gunn revealed a cast photo for Superman: Legacy, after the group had finished a table read for the superhero film. Gunn is writing and directing the project. He also serves as co-head of DC Studios.

Warner Bros. Discovery CFO Gunnar Wiedenfels also commented on the outlook of superhero films going forward on the call. “Just last year was a great example, with the greatest success in the film studio’s history, and some real challenges across the industry on the superhero side,” he said. The company saw rough box office results with Shazam: Fury of the Gods, Blue Beetle, and Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom in 2023.

Superman: Legacy will star David Corenswet as the Man of Steel, joined by The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel actress Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor. The DC film cast also includes Skylder Gisondo (Jimmy Olsen), Anthony Carrigan (Metamorpho), Nathan Fillion (Guy Gardner), Isabela Merced (Hawkgirl), Edi Gathegi (Mister Terrific), Terence Rosemore (Otis), and Maria Gabriela de Faria (Engineer).

Earlier this year, Gunn said a Superman: Legacy trailer won’t drop until 2025.
