Warner Bros. Games and Rocksteady have officially announced the release date for the upcoming Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, and players will be able to take the band of misfits on a hero-killing adventure from May 26, 2023.

The announcement came as part of this year’s The Game Awards where Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League received a new trailer that brought with it the release date announcement. That wasn’t the only surprise for fans, as the trailer also revealed that Batman will appear as one of the Justice League members that the Suicide Squad must hunt down to save Metropolis from Brainiac’s evil scheme.

This is, perhaps, Kevin Conroy’s final role, and in a touching tribute, the trailer ends with a simple message that says “Thank you Kevin.”

Kevin Conroy voiced Batman across multiple media, but among video game players, he’s best known for his work on Rocksteady’s Batman: Arkham series, so it’s somewhat fitting that he was able to return for Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League.

That said, it doesn’t look like this is the Batman we’ve all grown to know throughout the Batman: Arkham series. As seen in the trailer, Batman is a twisted version of himself, brainwashed by the evil Kryptonian AI Brainiac.

While the Task Force X (the Suicide Squad’s official designation) members are steadily mooching around Arkham Asylum, a security guard comes running through a door, only to disappear in the swoosh of a cape. Harley Quinn then reminds her teammates not to worry as Batman doesn’t kill. Then, the security guard drops from above, landing on the ground with a crunch and a broken neck, followed by Conroy’s Batman making a menacing entrance that ends with his gruff growls of “I am the night! I am vengeance! I am Batman!”

You sure are, Kevin, and you’ll be missed.
