Strictly Come Dancing star Angela Rippon has been dealt a crushing blow ahead of this year’s 2023 series.

The first seven celebrities have already been announced for this year’s dance competition, and while the remaining line-up is yet to be confirmed, the bookmakers have already been sharing their predictions.

TV betting experts OLBG believe the 78-year-old is currently the show’s outsider, while Layton Williams has already been tipped to win.

At the time of writing, Layton was given odds 4/1 to win, with actress Amanda Abbington the closest to him on 14/1.

Rating his chances, OLBG.com spokesperson said: “Barely any names have been revealed for this year’s Strictly but already there’s a hot favourite in the shape of Layton Williams, thanks to his history on the West End stage.

Regardless of who else is to join the lineup, he already looks like the one to beat.

“Angela Rippon is the rank outsider at 50/1, but should she capture the public’s hearts in the early rounds, expect her odds to plummet in her bid to make history as the oldest winner.”

Angela was one of the first names to be announced, and during an appearance on The One Show, she said: “My mantra is going to be, ‘Let’s do what we can for as long as we can, and have fun.'”

She stressed the importance of exercise, adding: “It will be wonderful if I could last long enough to demonstrate at my age, people can dance to keep fit and be strong.”

Layton, who is well known for his roles in Bad Education and Billy Elliot admitted to “being pretty nervous”.

“I am happy as long as it’s a guy,” the actor stated when asked which professional he would like to dance with.

“I am honestly ready to go on a rollercoaster journey and I am ready to learn some new skills.”

On Monday, another two names were confirmed to be taking part in the BBC show – making it seven so far.

Angela Scanlon and reality star Zara McDermott were added to the star-studded line-up.

“I am so excited to be joining the world of Strictly,” Zara beamed.

“I grew up watching it every year with my nan and she was the biggest Strictly fan. We would dance around the house and I have such fond memories of that time in my life.

“I even remember the first ever series, and being mesmerised by all the beautiful dresses.”

Strictly Come Dancing returns this autumn on BBC One.
