Shadow the Hedgehog looks ready to go fast on the film set for Sonic 3. A new image for the 2024 movie teases the antihero’s dope shoes along with his closed fists.

The official Sonic the Hedgehog movie account on Twitter/X revealed the first image from Sonic 3, showcasing that production has begun on the film. The social media post also confirms Sonic 3 is still aiming to release on December 20, 2024.

As for Shadow, he was actually unveiled during a post-credits scene for Sonic the Hedgehog 2. The sequel shows him frozen at some sort of secret research facility. The character originally debuted in the video game series with 2001’s Sonic Adventure 2.

In addition to Sonic 3, Knuckles (with voice actor Idris Elba) is getting his own TV show on Paramount+. It’s all part of the Sonic movie cinematic universe planned by the studio. If you didn’t know, the first two Sonic films were huge successes at the box office.

In fact, Sonic the Hedgehog 2 was the highest-grossing video game movie ever in the US before The Super Mario Bros. Movie premiered earlier this year. According to BoxOfficeMojo, Sonic brought in over $319 million worldwide, while Sonic 2 earned more than $405 million. So financially it makes sense why Paramount is further exploring the series.
