A few slimes are more elusive than others. In Slime Rancher, players had to hunt far and wide for some rarer slimes. The same holds in Slime Rancher 2. These slimes will take some ingenuity to find or just downright luck. Grab your vacpack, put on your dash boots, and get ready to head to the far parts of the islands in search of these squishy friends.

5/5 Puddle Slime

Puddle slimes are one of the rarest slimes in both Slime Rancher games. They are made of water and must also exist in it at all times, or they will burst into nothingness after a set amount of time. The only time a Puddle Slime should be out of the water is when they are in a vacpack storage slot. These slimes cannot be turned into largos and won’t interact with other slime’s plorts. They require no food source aside from their water, and will simply drop Puddle Plorts on occasion if they are happy. These elusive droplets like their privacy so much that if they are near many of their kind they will become embarrassed. During this time they will blush and refuse to drop plorts.

Puddle Slimes spawn only in the waterfall pools in Starlight Strand. Most ponds will house only one or two of these little wet creatures. The biggest pond holds a whopping 4-5 at a time and is located near the base of the Flutter Gordo’s platform. A couple can be found near the Honey Gordo area, and 1 or 2 will spawn in the pools near the Ringtail Gordo. If you’re looking for a Puddle to splash in, just be mindful of these shy guys.

4/5 Fire Slime

Just like their drowned counterparts the Fire Slimes are a hard slime to find if you don’t know where to look. They inhabit pools like Puddle Slime as well. Pools of lava in the Ember Valley, that is. The only place lava pools and the slimes that inhabit them spawn are in the areas near the Boom Gordo and the Batty Gordo. This area has a lot of hot-headed enemies that aren’t fond of the liquid fire they usually find themselves in, so ranchers beware the ferals that will be nearby.

They aren’t embarrassed like their alter egos, but still, it isn’t recommended for a rancher to place too many of them in an incinerator. Simply for the singular fact, these molten pets will eat through the ash trough relatively quickly. They also won’t eat other slime’s plorts and have no chance of becoming a largo or having another slime eat their plorts to become a largo. Maybe fire poops don’t taste good to other slimes?

3/5 Ringtail Slime

Ringtail Slimes can be found in both the Starlight Strand and the Ember Valley. Despite the fact they are spread out, they are still a rare find as little spawn, and during the day they turn into stone. Starting in the Ember Valley near the teleporter a player can find a small handful of these creatures among the rocky area. In the Starlight Strand, they can be found primarily hopping out of the ground near the Ringtail and Flutter Gordos. They can be spotted occasionally in other areas but their spawn RNG can be taken by more prolific slimes.

Maybe the Ringtails turning into stone is why so few of this slime can be found. Whatever the reason. Remember that if you find these little pouncing friends, they will turn into a statue in the morning. If a rancher is looking to add these to their corrals back home, vacuum them up at night as the stone variant is not vacpack compatible.

2/5 Lucky Slime

Seasoned ranchers of the Far, Far Range know that hearing a specific twinkling sound means a rare slime has stopped by for a visit. There is no location for this slime. Instead, Lucky Slimes simply show up as a player is out wandering through the world. Looking similar to a Tabby Slime mixed with a Meowth, Lucky Slimes are luck personified. Based on some RNG mechanics and maybe a bit of magic these little kitties will hop past you on their way to whatever holds their fancy next.

There is a time limit on this spawn, and when you find one, try to have a chicken handy. They are a meat eater, and gifting them some food when they stop by is a good thing. You’ll somehow receive some Newbucks in exchange for a well-placed chicken shot into their mouths. There’s no way of knowing where this cat was keeping those coins. It’s also suspicious how it came to have money.

1/5 Gold Slime

The Gold Slime. Elusive, rare, a royal pain when it shows up, and you have no food to give it. Whatever you want to call it this slime is a hard one to come by. Like the Lucky Slime, it has no location that it inhabits routinely. They just appear for a moment among other slimes. Gold slimes are fast to retreat just like they’re fast to spawn out of the corner of your eye.

If you have a piece of any food to spare, and are a quick shot, hitting this slime will net a rancher the rare Golden Plort. It has the highest base sale price of any plort in the game. Typically, in the 300-500 Newbucks range. Getting a shot in and getting some serious money is a welcome treat after spotting one of these only to have it instantly vanish.
