Should You Return To New York Or Save Athia?

One of the toughest choices players face in Forspoken is whether to help Athia or return home to New York. Is there a right choice?

Quick Links

~ There are spoilers for Forspoken’s late-game narrative below! ~Late in Forspoken’s story, players will be given the option to finally return home to New York or stay in Athia and save the citizens. This is no easy decision, as players must essentially choose between Frey’s wishes and those of the Athian people.

The choice is given to players by Frey’s mother, Cinta, and once the choice is made there’s no going back, so it’s important to choose carefully. The guide below can give you an idea of what happens with each choice, but the ultimate decision lies in your hands.

Returning To New York

Returning to New York City may not yield the results that many players assume. Choosing to go home really does result in Frey returning home. There are no more fights, no more magic, and no more Athia. Frey comes back to Homer, and lives out her life as she would have, like Athia never existed. Going with this choice will end the game, rolling the credits after a small cutscene. Players wanting to cut their Forspoken experience short while still feeling like they got a concise ending might enjoy this option.

Staying In Athia

Remaining in Athia will result in players mounting Frey’s dragon mother and taking the fight directly to Susurrus. This option gives players a bit more content to work through and also ties up a lot of loose ends. It is a fulfilling choice to make, as players get the chance to take on, and defeat, the real enemy of the game, Cuff. Choosing to stay and fight in Athia also give players access to the large open-world post-game where they can revisit areas, complete unfinished tasks, and obtain more powerful loot.

Which Choices Is The Right One?

This decision can be difficult to make, but the choice is truly up to the player. Based on the gameplay that follows each of these decisions, it is clear that the intended ending of the game plays out when Frey stays in Athia and chooses to fight Susurrus. Frey’s biological mother, Tanta Cinta, makes no effort to hide her hopes that Frey stays and fights. This may be the deciding factor for many players, but it ultimately comes down to whether players want to continue Frey’s journey, seeing it come to a resolute end. If so, it’s best to stick around in Athia. If not, players should take the safe way out and reunite with Homer in NYC.
