The pre-orders of Starfield have gone live, and there’s quite a bit of information that developers have laid out. There is a variety of options to pick from, all with their own benefits. If you’re still wondering if you should pre-order Starfield, I’ll explain each of the editions and the bonuses that come below. So read on.

Starfield: Which edition should you pre-order and what bonuses will you get? – Explained

Starfield has four editions to choose from and each has its own pre-order bonuses. Just like a lot of other triple-A games with more than one version, some editions of Starfield are better than others. So let’s go through each pre-order edition.

  • Standard Edition – This is the first tier and probably the cheapest in the group. It’ll run you around $69.99 USD and will come with a few perks. You’ll also get an Old Mars Skin pack which will include in-game items such as Laser Cutter, Deep Mining Helmet, and Deep Mining Pack.

Note for Game Pass users, this will be the edition that’s going to be available to use

  • Digital Premium Edition – The second edition will cost $99.99 USD and is going to be packed with a lot more. With this edition, you get early access to Starfield. You’ll also have access to the Old Mars Skin pack from the Standard Edition as well. To set itself apart, the other goodies you’ll get are the Constellation Skin pack which has an Equnoix Laser Rifle, Spacesuit, Helmet, and Boost pack. On top of that, this edition also gives players access to the digital artbook and the soundtrack of Starfield.
  • Premium Edition – Getting this tier of Starfield is unique since it’s an upgrade. It will cost you about $31.49 USD if you subscribe to Game Pass, if you don’t, you’ll be paying around $34.99 USD. This edition comes with everything that’s offered in Standard and Digital. However, it also comes with a Steelbook Case and Constellation Patch that’s only available from certain stores. It will include the first story expansion called Shattered Space Story which is due out later on.

This edition comes with everything in the other tiers but has its own offerings. You’ll get Starfield Chronomark and Watch and Case, the Steelbook case, and the patch. This edition will also come with the story expansion stated above

Should I pre-order Starfield

If you’re like me and want to get ahead start, purchasing the Digital Premium Edition would be the safest bet. You get early access, and benefits of both tiers of Starfield. Additionally, you won’t be spending a large amount of money. Opting to upgrade to the Premium Edition from the Standard Edition could be a viable option. However, I recommend doing the upgrade only if you have the first tier. The jump from Digital to the Premium Upgrade does not justify the cost of the expansion. So the best thing would be to buy it separately when the first story comes out.
