Shadow and Bone season has arrived on Netflix with season two and Alina Starkov (played by Jessie Mei Li) and Mal Oretsev (Archie Renaux) made a tragic discovery. While Alina was on a mission to track down the Firebird, Aleksander Kirigan (Ben Barnes) was out for revenge. Express.co.uk has all you need to know about the show’s future.

Will there be a season 3 of Shadow and Bone?

The fantasy drama is based on Leigh Bardugo’s Grishaverse novels and there are 10 in total.

“I’ve been writing in the Grishaverse for nearly 10 years now, so I’m thrilled we get to keep this adventure going,” Bardugo told Yahoo! Life before the release of season two.

“There are so many places we’ve barely gotten to visit, and I can’t wait to introduce our audience to more of the saints, soldiers, thugs, thieves, princes and privateers who make this world so much fun to explore.”

Shadow and Bone season two is based on the books Siege and Storm and Ruin and Rising.

As there is so much source material still left to use, the Shadow and Bone universe is only just beginning.

The second outing ended on a massive cliffhanger when Mal discovered he was the Firebird.

This meant he would have to sacrifice himself in order to defeat Kirigan and put an end to The Fold.

However, it would mean losing the love of his life, Alina, for the greater good.

With viewers keen to find out what happens to the couple, bosses are clearly confident season three plans are in the pipeline.

The decision will ultimately be down to Netflix, with the streamer basing a potential renewal on viewership figures.

Netflix revealed alongside the season two renewal announcement that 55 million households had watched the first season in its first 28 days.

The show received positive reviews from critics, with Rotten Tomatoes reporting an approval rating of 89 per cent based on 80 reviews.

With this in mind, it appears viewers will not be disappointed when Netflix makes its decision.

Fans took to Twitter to share their thoughts on the second season, with @OlokodanaH saying: “Mal and Alina. My heart can’t take this.”

@thereafter added: “Exhausted from staying up until 1am binging #ShadowAndBone do i regret it?

“No, but I wish there was more crows to make it worth it.”

Shadow and Bone season 2 is on Netflix now.
