Recent reports point to the Knights of the Old Republic Remake is now dead in the water as Embracer Group refuses to comment on its development.

Rumour: Knights of the Old Republic Remake Development Inactive

There are signs that the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Remake might not be going ahead. There have been a few hints development has stopped but most recently has been brought back into the spotlight by a new report.

The overall development of KOTOR Remake has been shaky at best, with things not looking good when the CEO of Embracer, Lars Wingefors, who is the parent company of Saber Interactive refused to make a comment on the game’s current status during an earnings presentation. His response to a question about the game’s current state was “I notice that anything I say to this becomes a headline” and decided that’s all he would say on the matter.

It could be that’s all they are at liberty to say on development, but silence doesn’t exactly instil confidence in the current state of the RPG.

A Disturbance in the Force

This was brought back into the limelight when a journalist from the Giant Bomb, Jeff Grubb reportedly shared on a podcast that “full stop, this game is not being worked on in any way at any studio.” He also clarified that there were rumours the game was taken away from Aspyr, who has worked on other Star Wars remasters, and moved to Saber Interactive, both studios are under Embracer. However, Grub also stated, “This is not being worked on in any way at any studio”.

Sony began to rid the internet of the Knights of the Old Republic Remake in September of this year. Stating it was due to music licenses expiring. Grubb responded to this move as a “100 percent” confirmation that no studio was currently working on it. The removal of social media posts of the trailer reveal is rather suspicious and certainly doesn’t bode well for the game’s survival.

Grubb has in the past shared rumblings of prior reveals/upcoming details such as the Starfield leaked release window and the Elden Ring whispers of an unveiling. An industry vet who has a lot of links to industry ongoings.

A little Too Quiet

There was a Bloomberg report about the PS5 exclusive back in July 2022 when the KOTOR remake was apparently “delayed indefinitely”. The game was first officially revealed back in 2021 during a Playstation Showcase but since has been rather quiet apart from the studio shuffle.

A remake KOTOR has been long requested by fans, especially on newer consoles. They even went as far as making a 19,000-signature petition on Change.org to try to make it happen. Unfortunately, the future of the game seems to hang in the balance. No official comment has been made on its actual demise as of yet, but a long silence from the developer doesn’t look hopeful.
