Fly, Swim, Ride

First up we have a quick look at exploration. Getting around in 19th century Japan doesn’t need to be boring. Simply leap from high areas using the fantasy bird-like glider called the Avicula. This is believed to be based on the early blueprint of the “oldest aeroplane” in Japan. You can even use a combo of grappling to overhead flying kites and whip out the glider mid-leap for a smooth transition.

For a more traditional way to get around opt for the horse. It will provide speed and a more scenic look at your surroundings. Of course, the grappling rope will help whisk you overhead through boat villages and up more rocky areas. This can lead to hidden chests and hopefully some amazing loot. You can also swim through rivers for a more covert approach or simply take a dip while admiring the spectacular fireworks.

The next part of the video takes a look at the different locations including Edo (today known as Tokyo), Kyoto, and Yokohama. All very scenic visuals depicting life in during the Bakumatsu Japan era.

Gameplay Preview

The latter part of the trailer takes a look at gameplay, including roaming natural areas, playing gliding mini games, archery, and sneak attacks. There’s even a glimpse of petting cats in your downtime. One boss or mini-boss wields a club weapon the size of the protagonist, holding nothing back. You can dodge, roll and lunge at enemies in combat. It ends with what looks to be the ability to save a fire torches, which looks similar to previous games such as Wo Long Fallen Dynasty‘s Battle Flags or Nioh 2‘s Shrines. This could also be a fast travel point.

Previously Team Ninja has shown a few of the weapons players will get to use including the Fire Pipe, a a flamethrower-type weapon. They have also introduced the main three factions which will be holding influence during this era.
