Richard Hammond dealt blow as Grand Tour star’s Channel 4 show axed after one series | TV & Radio | Showbiz & TV

Richard Hammond’s series Crazy Contraptions saw teams work together to build ingenious creations out of ordinary objects.

However, it has been reported the show has been cancelled by Channel 4 bosses.

“Richard Hammond’s Crazy Contraptions was a bold and creative programme that engaged audiences with the exciting world of science and engineering,” a Channel 4 spokesperson told Metro.co.uk.

“Our strategy continues to be one that develops new formats and exciting ideas.”

The first series landed on Channel 4 last year, with Richard seeing teams make chain-reaction machines with household objects.

Richard revealed he was inspired to take part in the series after many failed attempts to construct his own machines during the height of the coronavirus pandemic.

The 53-year-old presenter is perhaps best known for working alongside Jeremy Clarkson and James May on the motoring shows The Grand Tour and Top Gear.

The latest series of Top Gear was axed by BBC bosses following an investigation into the accident which injured host Freddie Flintoff.

A statement from the BBC said: “Under the circumstances, we feel it would be inappropriate to resume making series 34 of Top Gear at this time.

“We understand this will be disappointing for fans, but it is the right thing to do, and we’ll make a judgment about how best to continue later this year.

“This has also impacted the production team, who we continue to support.

“Finally there will be a health and safety review of the show, in line with our procedures.”

The broadcaster said it would “continue to support” former cricketer Freddie with his recovery following his crash which happened in December.

Freddie was rushed to hospital following an accident at Dunsfold Aerodrome, in Surrey, while filming for Top Gear.

The Grand Tour season five is set to air its next episode on June 16.
