Revenant Hill, the new game from some of the core minds behind Night in the Woods, made its debut as part of Sony’s latest PlayStation Showcase, sporting a similar look to that of its predecessor.

In a post on the PlayStation Blog, Coby West, a technical designer at developer The Glory Society, shared more info on what players will be up to in Revenant Hill. Like Night in the Woods, Revenant Hill will star a feline protagonist, a cat named Twigs. After their barn burns down Twig must find a way to survive, and sets up shop near an abandoned graveyard, only for an owl to start demanding rent. As West puts it, “things only get more complicated from there.”

The game takes place in 1919, and Twigs will look to make ends meet by putting down roots, growing crops, and becoming acquainted with the neighbors. There’s also ghosts, witches, demons, and other supernatural elements to contend with. Twigs will have the ability to learn hexes and charms as they seek to become a “fully licensed familiar.” West teases that “something big and dark” is a foot in the towns and factories, and that “at some point, someone is going to have to push back.”

The teaser trailer shows Twigs first running through the woods, then a series of fields, and finally a bustling town undergoing some kind of protest or labor dispute. At the end, the cat climbs a hill and sits down next to a cast of characters that include a woman, a skeleton, and a possum in a hat, as they all look out on a sunny valley. The trailer concludes with the tagline “Rise Together.”

That tagline seems fitting, given that West describes the goal of Revenant Hill as being to build an “egalitarian community,” something the developers at The Glory Society are also striving for. The studio is a co-op, meaning the developers own the company and are each their own boss. The Glory Society was formed in 2019 by Bethany Hockenberry and Scott Benson, two of the co-creators on Nights in the Woods.

Revenant Hill is in development for both PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4, though no release date was given.
