Resident Evil 9 May Have Been Internally Delayed – Rumour

Allegedly in the works since as far back as 2018, Resident Evil 9 is set to have the longest ever development cycle for a Resident Evil game by the time it launches, which, as per prior reports, is going hand-in-hand with the series’ largest ever budget for a single game to date. It seems, however, that Capcom might have pushed back the game further out than originally planned to give it even more time in the oven.

That’s as per prominent insider Dusk Golem, who recently claimed in a message on Discord (via @ResiEvilCentral on Twitter) that based on what he’s heard in recent months, Resident Evil 9 may have been internally delayed by Capcom. Originally set to launch sometime in 2025 as per prior reports, the insider suggests that the game has now been pushed back, with no concrete information on when it’ll be announced either.

As per Dusk Golem, there is a chance that Capcom actually ends up announcing and releasing a different Resident Evil title before the next mainline numbered entry, though he qualifies this claim by saying that though he has seen suggestions regarding the same, it’s not something he can concretely confirm yet.

Recently, the insider also claimed that Resident Evil 9 was being built on the open world technology of Dragon’s Dogma 2, though what exactly that will mean for the game’s design remains to be seen.
