Tribeca Games Festival

Want to try out A Plague Tale: Requiem and other in-the-works titles? Tribeca Festival’s games programme, which takes place this June, could be for you.

What if you don’t live in Tribeca, New York? Then you can dabble in these demos remotely, without even leaving the comfort of your armchair. Aside from rat-eluding adventure A Plague Tale: Requiem, you also have the opportunity to try American Arcadia, As Dusk Falls, The Cub, Cuphead – The Delicious Last Course, IMMORTALITY, OXENFREE II: Lost Signal, Thirsty Suitors and Venba.

All those titles have been specially selected for the festival and all  should be worth taking for a spin. Venba, for example, is a “narrative cooking game” which casts you as an Indian mother who emigrates to Canada in the 80s. What’s appealing about this particular title is how the recipes are the protagonist’s connection to her former home.

We’re also looking forward to Oxenfree II, as well as seeing what Sam “Telling Lies” Barlow’s next FMV game, IMMORTALITY has in store. In short, if you asked us to choose which titles we’d want to take a look at, we’d be hard pressed to narrow it down to more than three.

Unfortunately, if you do want to demo these titles remotely, you will have to pick and choose. For $5, you can try up to three titles, getting a one hour session with each. You’ll need to use a PC, because Parsec, the remote software the demos use, is PC-based. If, on the other hand, you want to turn up in person it costs $20 for a four hour session though going by Tribeca Festival’s FAQ they don’t require proof of COVID vaccination, so bear the risk in mind.

The Tribecca Festival Games Programme takes place between June 11th and June 19th. On top of that, there’s also an immersive showcase taking place, which offers VR and augmented reality-style experiences.

So how do you book? Details are on the website but, be warned, the slots are already starting to fill up. Amicia, Hugo and the horrifying rat tornadoes won’t wait forever.
