The first Sword Art movie, Sword Art Online: Progressive Aria of a Starless Night, premiered in Japan in 2021, also topping the box office charts in its first weekend. The first film was made available in over 40 countries and territories globally. Funimation screened the first movie in Australia, Canada, the United States, and New Zealand in December 2021. Even with Sword Art’s popularity, a Blu-ray Disc is just now being made available on January 19.

However, before becoming a hit movie franchise, Sword Art Online: Progressive was a light novel series. The series launched in 2012 as a revised retelling of Kawahara’s original Sword Art Online novels. The story follows Kirito’s journey through a floating Aincrad castle, floor-by-floor. Maybe you’re picturing Kirito just strolling through the castle on a little adventure. Well, don’t. Kirito is stuck in a Virtual Reality Massive Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game. If you prefer games to anime, or maybe you like both, you can also play your way through the floors of the castle in the Sword Art games.

Tickets for the second film became available on Friday along with the release of the English dubbed trailer. The newest trailer is the same as the official Japanese trailer, but well, in English.
