Pokemon is celebrating its World Championships 2022 this week and Pokemon GO was not going to be left out of the fun at all, with them offering not only a full event but also a new Timed Research to complete.
This latest Timed Research is a little unique compared to the usual based on what you have to do, though it’s not the first to utilize special battles in the game.
The rewards are very well worth the time spent working on completing it though, so you will definitely not want to miss out.
When Is The Event?
The Pokemon GO World Championships 2022 event in Pokemon GO kicks off on Thursday, August 18, at 10:00 am local time and will run for a little over five days until Tuesday, August 23, at 8:00 pm local time.
During the time of this event, there will be spawns for the all-new exclusive World Championships 2022 Pikachu, which will even have a shiny variant available as well. There will also be other Pokemon with increased spawns during the event, as well as Zacian and Zamazenta making their way into raids for only the second time. Unfortunately, Zacian and Zamazenta will not be available in their shiny forms.
The GO Battle League is a big focus during this event as well, as you can play up to 10 sets of matches, up from the usual 5, which means you can do 50 battles a day. In addition, there will be 3x Stardust from GO Battle League rewards during this time as well.
Pokemon GO World Championships 2022 Timed Research
There may be a number of exclusive activities like a Collection Challenge at the World Championships 2022, but there is still plenty for players to enjoy from home. One of these includes the Pokemon Go World Championships 2022 Timed Research that is well worth the trouble for what you get as a reward.
This Timed Research is comprised of only one step, but five different tasks that escalate as you work towards it. This will require you to get out of the house to complete though unless you have PokeStops within range at least.

- Battle a Challenger – 10x Poke Balls
- Battle 2 Challengers – 1x Fast TM
- Battle 3 Challengers – 10x Great Balls
- Battle 4 Challengers – 1x Charged TM
- Battle 5 Challengers – 10x Ultra Balls
For those confused about Battle Challengers, they are special spawns at PokeStops during this event that are based on regional winners in the Championships that you can battle.
For completing the Pokemon GO World Championships 2022 Timed Research, you will be rewarded with not only an encounter with a World Championships 2022 Pikachu, but also two of the rarest items in Pokemon GO, an Elite Fast TM and an Elite Charged TM.
These two items are very rarely given away and typically are only able to be gotten through special Boxes offered in the shop, such as the specific ones offered on Community Days. For those that do not know what makes Elite TMs special is that they can allow you to pick whichever move you want to give your Pokemon from their available list, even including special event legacy moves that are not available otherwise.
For those two items alone, this is very well worth doing before the event ends on August 23.
