One Piece Is Getting An Anime Remake From The Studio Behind Spy X Family

There are hundreds of One Piece anime episodes to watch, and if that sounds daunting, then the good news is that you can look forward to a remake of the animated series in the future. Netflix has revealed that Spy X Family animator Wit Studio will be producing the remake, which is currently titled The One Piece. This project will cover the East Blue saga that ran for 100 chapters in the manga and 61 episodes in the original anime adaptation when it first aired more than 20 years ago.

While it hasn’t been confirmed, it’s likely that filler content won’t be present in Wit’s adaptation. Anime adaptations typically catch up to the weekly manga chapters very quickly, forcing studios to maintain their momentum with made-for-TV story arcs while manga artists produce new content. Most of the time, filler arcs aren’t well received and are easily forgettable. One Piece has had its fair share of filler over the decades, with notorious examples being the Warship Island, Ice Hunter, and Foxy’s Return arcs.

There have been a few anime remakes in the past, and if you’re looking for some great series that nailed the look and feel of the manga that they’re based on Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, Hellsing Ultimate, and Blade of the Immortal are excellent reboots. 2023 has been a great year for One Piece as well, as the current anime’s Wano Arc has been critically acclaimed, while Netflix’s live-action adaptation has been a big hit.

One Piece creator Eiichiro Oda also broke the news that a second season of One Piece is in the early stages of development and will once again star Inaki Godoy as Monkey D. Luffy, Mackenyu as Roronoa Zoro, Emily Rudd as Nami, Jacob Romero Gibson as Usopp, and Taz Skylar as Sanji.
