Ofcom will be taking no action over actress Adjoa Andoh’s ITV remarks during the Coronation of King Charles III.

Last month, the TV regulator was flooded with complaints after Bridgerton actress Adjoa Andoh left ITV co-stars, including Myleene Klass, stunned after she labelled the Buckingham Palace balcony “terribly white”.

ITV guests and viewers were left surprised by Adjoa’s comments as she decided to reflect on the royal family’s famous balcony appearance.

Today, Ofcom has responded to the many complaints it received at the time.

In a statement, the organisation said: “While we understand some viewers had strong feelings about this comment, after careful consideration we have concluded that the comment was a personal observation which was part of a wide-ranging panel discussion which also touched on other diversity-related topics, and which contained a range of viewpoints.”

The statement concluded: “Our decision to not pursue these complaints further also takes into account broadcasters’ and guests’ right to freedom of expression.”

Fellow pundit Myleene Klass was among those who appeared baffled by the remarks as she sat next to the actress.

“We’ve gone from the rich diversity of the Abbey to a terribly white balcony,” she stated as her fellow guests appeared bewildered.

“I was very struck by that,” she continued, adding: “I am also looking at those younger generations and thinking, ‘What are the nuances that they will inhabit when they grow?'”

@Strongarms12 added: “Myleene looks (justifiably) horrified.”

@MariaBaird13 penned: “I can’t believe she said that,” while @buddyflan remarked: “ITV was poor throughout their coverage, god save the King.”

@EmmaxAx shared: “I’m so confused by #AdjoaAndoh what did she expect to see? The Royal Family are a white family!”

Others defended Adjoa’s comments though, with @willireallyam1 responding to a tweet to state: “Hmmm perhaps because Adjoa Andoh had a point? The fact it riles you so much speaks volumes…”

“Her point being – there is no diversity AT ALL on that balcony. Meghan was their diversity! She was their relatability and relevance in a multicultural society. Their absolute reach to every ethnic minority in the UK,” @narindertweets added.
