Nightingale developer Inflexion Games is preparing for the open-world survival RPG’s Early Access release on February 20, 2024. With this, comes the release of an extended gameplay trailer where players are treated with never-before-seen features including character customization, crafting, base-building, and combat.

Nightingale Gets Extended Gameplay Trailer

Nightingale has been making waves, as more than 10,000 players signed up for the playtest back in November. One of the game’s most exciting aspects is the ability to play with friends while traversing through magical worlds (or “realms”) using arcane portals… safely.

As a Realmwalker, the player’s goal is to survive traveling from one portal to the next while building their envisioned life. Every realm is different, and each one of them presents problems that are out of this world. Despite the danger that awaits and the surprises one can’t anticipate, do you think you have what it takes to live the life you deserve?

In the trailer, we see how the Character Creation system will pan out. There’s the Basics section where you will choose between the different facial features of your character in the form of Archetypes as well as their Age and Voice. But if you’re like me where you prefer to meticulously change how they look then you’ll enjoy how it’s done in Nightingale. You can certainly adjust your nose, jawline, eyes, and mouth, and even put on some makeup for that nice touch!

Additionally, we see various loadouts about a handful of the game’s difficulty modes. First is the Late Sleeper Academic who has devoted their lives to becoming a pioneer of research at the local university. Choosing this means that you will have an extremely challenging time navigating the Fae Wilds.

Second, the Hard Mode is the Unprepared Civilian. As the name implies, they aren’t ready to tackle the multiple worlds that they’re about to embark on. They are pretty skilled scholars though. Third, for the Medium Difficulty, is the Heedful Refugee who is relatively more prepared than the previous two loadouts. And, last but not least, is the Survivalist Prepper, who, as you may have guessed, is someone who knows how to make their way through life, whatever hardship is thrown at them. Let’s just say that they’re the ultimate doomsday prepper!

Base building in Nightingale constitutes the many different ways you can create your base of operations or estate from the ground up. It gives you a refuge to erect workshops while serving as a safe haven from the creatures that lurk in the Fae Wilds. This includes expanding your ‘house’ to have gardens and even fortresses. What’s cool is that you can choose from several structural themes like the Stave, Tudor, and Pagoda, the name a few.

Crafting, on the other hand, is more complex, and shares similarities with how it’s been done in New World even with how the UI looks. Every recipe or item you’d want to craft has its corresponding tier. The better the quality and the stronger it is, the higher the tier and gear score. This means that you should also use rarer materials for them.

In Nightingale though, Inflexion Games takes it a bit further. These “rare materials” also have stats associated with them. Let’s take the harpy meat, leather, and bones results in gaining stealth and speed bonuses. So, you can potentially take bigger creatures by surprise if you intend to attack them quietly from behind, especially when you’re hunting for them.

What’s more, is that you’ll have the choice to add enchantments, infusions, and charms to your crafted equipment. Enchantments are active benefits that can change the way you play the game. For example, you can increase the AoE of your spells by slamming the ground or growing trees to defend yourself from aggressive monsters. Conversely, infusions and charms take on a passive role. For instance, depending on what you select, you’ll be able to gather resources faster than your usual rate.

Combat in Nightingale moves at a much quicker pace. Because of this, players will need to learn how to quickly react to situations to swap to the weapons they need at the time. In the gameplay trailer, the character glides down an area filled with beasts and then swaps to an Axe. This is a dependable Two-Handed Weapon that allows you to destroy multiple enemies in one fell swoop while blocking their attacks and shoving them away from you.

However, if you need more space, then jumping backward and switching to a Pistol is the way to go. And if things get too dicey, necessitating a retreat, you can simply use your parasol to glide away again. But as you gain more experience, you’ll unlock special abilities that will allow you to take on more challenging fights without needing to fly away.

Nightingale Early Access will launch on February 20, 2024, via Steam and Epic Game Store.
