Nexon May Be Working On A New Game of Thrones MMORPG

It seems we have a new video game adaptation of Game of Thrones, although the details of the project are still very scarce. Game of Thrones and A Song of Ice and Fire is a successful franchise on HBO, but on PC, Steam Deck, PS4, PS5, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch, they haven’t taken off; that could change with this MMO from Nexon.

Game of Thrones A New MMO On The Way

Of the few games based on the universe created by George R. R. Martin, only Game of Thrones: A Telltale Game Series had some recognition; but it didn’t last more than one season.

Now, thanks to the information we have from Redanian Intelligence, it seems that Game of Thrones has another video game adaptation in development by the South Korean company.

The aforementioned source reports that Nexon is developing a new MMORPG in the world of Game of Thrones, after releasing The Finals, Warhaven, Kartrider, and many others.

The game would be set in the North, specifically Winterfell and The Wall. Redanian assures that chronologically, it has a story between Seasons 4 and 5 of Game of Thrones.

Players will interact with these and other characters, but the original cast will not be there for the dubbing. Instead, other actors will try to make it similar; although all of this could change.

“As far as we understand, the as-yet-unnamed game has a story campaign, but it’s online,” they say at Redanian Intelligence. Players will be able to choose between a male or female character, but the discarded one will appear in the adventure; similar to Mass Effect: Andromeda.

The Game Would Be Set In Winterfell & The Wall

The project bears some resemblance to The Elder Scrolls Online, but the information they have doesn’t provide enough details to specify what exactly; besides what has already been mentioned.

Game of Thrones has a new opportunity in video games. The protagonist is a new character with problems to solve, and its release date would be 2025 or 2026, though it’s not certain. The source reminds us that there was already a Game of Thrones MMORPG called ‘Game of Thrones: Seven Kingdoms,’ but it was canceled.

The HBO and George R. R. Martin franchise hopes to continue with House of the Dragon in its 2nd season – during June 2024 – and will soon start with The Knight of the Seven Kingdoms.

Regarding the release date, there’s still no official information. It’s expected that the game will feature a narrative campaign within the online mode, which means those seeking an individual offline experience will have to look elsewhere.

If this rumor is confirmed, it would undoubtedly be great news for Game of Thrones fans who have long awaited a game that does justice to the series’ magnificent story.
