Konami dropped plenty of Silent Hill news during the January 2024 State of Play. In addition to a look at Bloober Team’s Silent Hill 2 remake, it also revealed an entirely new entry in the franchise. The game is called Silent Hill: The Short Message and is available to play for free right now exclusively on PlayStation 5.

The Short Message follows protagonist Anita as she finds herself trapped inside of a crumbling apartment building with a notorious past while following messages from her friend Maya. Anita “can’t leave til you find it” read messages from Maya. In The Short Message players will navigate through this new journey in first-person as Anita seeks to unravel Maya’s mystery and face a terrifying monster. If you’re a fan of spooky atmosphere and jump scares, this one’s got your name all over it.

We first heard about The Short Message back in September 2022 when the game was leaked by the South Korean rating’s board. The Australian Classification Board’s annual report in November 2023 also revealed more information about the game, including that it will be “an exploration-based psychological horror game in which players control characters in an apartment building called The Villa in modern-day Germany.

The Short Message is one of several projects part of a massive revitalization of the Silent Hill franchise. Other projects include the ongoing interactive experiment Silent Hill: Ascension and Bloober Team’s Silent Hill 2 remake. Silent Hill f is another title revealed back in 2022 that Konami hasn’t shared any additional details about since the first announcement. But while f and Silent Hill 2 remake are still a way off, you can play The Short Message right now by downloading it from the PlayStation store.
