Infinity Ward has announced that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 will be free-to-play between March 16th and 20th on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and PC, with limited-time access featuring a selection of multiplayer and special ops experiences for non-game owners.
Players will be able to try out a limited section of the game’s multiplayer mode, coinciding with the launch of Season 2 Reloaded. Though the campaign will be inaccessible, players can experience various game modes and compete against friends in action-packed multiplayer encounters. Free-to-play users will also have access to the first raid episode released last December, which requires a pre-made squad of three players with no matchmaking. The difficulty will be locked to standard during the free access period.
The new multiplayer map Himmelmatt Expo will also be available, where operators will navigate through its main event center and surrounding amenities, including restaurants, bars, and saunas. Players can also expect a variety of game modes like Domination and Team Deathmatch, the two core modes of the game’s multiplayer. The Infected mode, which requires players to avoid the eliminated, and the Gun Game mode, a competition of gun skill offering a wide weapon rotation, will also be available as part of the free trial this weekend.
Apart from Himmelmatt Expo, the free access content includes core maps, including Farm 18, Mercado Las Almas, Shipment, and Dome. The two battle modes, Ground War and Invasion, will also be unlocked alongside the Santa Sena battle map. The list of all core modes included in the trial can be found below:

This free access period will give non-game owners a brief idea of the game’s multiplayer mode and the first co-op raid if they consider buying it at some point. Following the launch of Season 2 Reloaded, full game owners will have access to a variety of new content, including the Himmelmatt Expo map, Tempus Torrent Marksman Rifle, and the second raid episode where they will take control of Captain Price, Farah, and Gaz.
