Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2

Activision Blizzard and Infinity Ward has confirmed that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is on the way and it’s coming this year.

Yes, there was already Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, released in 2019 and yes, the situation is bound to get a little bit confusing. But that’s what they’re going with, as confirmed by Infinity Ward’s recent tweet, which also unveiled the game’s logo.

Back in February, publisher Activision Blizzard and developer Infinity Ward confirmed that 2019’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare was getting a sequel, set to arrive in 2022. It’s set to draw from the free-to-play Call of Duty: Warzone Battle Royale game, and will make use of an entirely new engine. Infinity Ward hasn’t absolutely confirmed it’ll have a single player mode but that 2019’s Modern Warfare sported one it seems likely.

Now, it’s been officially announced as Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, along with an eyeful of the official logo which is.. okay, we guess? It’s striking, yes, but it’s also faintly confusing which, now we think about it, is in line with Activision Blizzard calling the game Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. For a start, it looks a little too much like the Nine Inch Nails logo. Plus, we keep seeing it as MIIN.

As for the game itself, it’ll be arriving this year. Activision Blizzard has yet to specify the platform but we’d expect it to hit PC, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S. But hang on.. what about the PlayStation? Microsoft has recently purchased Activision Blizzard – could the game become an Xbox exclusive?

That’s entirely possible but we doubt it’ll happen with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. The purchase took place this year but, for it to release this year, it’d have to have been in development, for all platforms, well before the purchase. And, coupled with the gamer rage it’d generate, we can’t see Microsoft just throwing the PlayStation version in the bin. We’ll let you know when we hear more.
