So to help make things easy, here are the best Midnight Suns playable characters ranked on a combo of their abilities, card decks, team synergy, and Legendary cards.

10 Blade

In Midnight Suns, Blade is a damage dealing character whose unique mechanic is Bleed, which ticks a reoccurring amount of passive damage once applied. Blade’s passive is called Cold Blooded, and it gives his base attacks a chance to apply Bleed as well.

Lifesteal is big part of his ability set that gives him a chance to survive being focused by enemies. With a Legendary card in Glaive being just okay for taking out multiple-enemies, Blade is the master of none — but can still pull out some impressive damage with time.

9 Ghost Rider

Marvel's Midnight Suns ghost rider

Ghost Rider does the most solo damage in the game, but it’s at the expense to his own health-bar because Ghost Rider’s abilities damage himself. So players need to balance his HP with his Drain Soul ability and his passive, Soul Collector, which gives Ghost Rider increased, permanent base health.

Penance Stare is Robbie Reyes’ Legendary, and it does huge amounts of damage in exchange for a whopping 50% of Ghost Rider’s total health. Ghost Rider’s abilities in action are some of the highlights of the game, and having him on a strike team can make for some incredible, last-minute victories right when things looked their darkest.

8 Wolverine

In Midnight Suns, Wolverine’s health keeps coming back in the form of his Healing Factor, which is also the name of Wolverine’s passive, which heals him every time a Wolverine card is redrawn in a game. His kit is focused on self-sustainability, damage, and coming back from KO’s and low health.

Wolverine’s Legendary card is called Midnight Special and is one of the better ones in the game for damage. Wolverine’s strength is his weakness however, and being in-between a tank and a damage character means he’s not truly either which can make him feel lackluster in situations.

7 Doctor Strange

Marvel's Midnight Suns doctor strange

Doctor Strange is one of the best support characters in Midnight Suns. However, unlike heroes like Hunter and Nico, Doctor Strange lacks any direct healing in his basic abilities. Yet his value as a support is not seen in either his damage or his healing abilities. Doctor Strange truly shines best in Midnight Suns when he is bolstering the abilities and damage of others.

As a support, Steven Strange’s kit can be inventive. His spells can boost raw damage, increase Heroism for hard-hitters to spend, and even make his allies disappear (and avoid all damage). The weakness of Doctor Strange is that he has fairly low HP and Resilience, making him an easy target on the battlefield. However, this is why Strange is well-paired with tanky characters that can Taunt or even other supports that can heal.

6 Hulk

Marvel's Midnight Suns hulk

Being the very last base character to unlock, the Hulk’s incredibleness is easy to miss. However, his kit combined with his passive allows the Hulk to do the highest damage in the game of any character. With enough Rage from enemy damage and spending Skill cards, Hulk can become Invulnerable to all damage. This is where using him as a tank can work, but because of his insane amounts of single-target damage, Hulk can be paired in literally any team as long as he can survive.

In some ways, Hulk compares to high-damage characters like Iron Man because it takes several rounds to get for his effectiveness to escalate. That’s why spending his Rage points is a balancing actof having increased damageat the moment or having a Hulk that cannot take damage in the future. Hulk’s Legendary card is called Worldbreaker, and it may be the best one in the game with a huge area-of-effect and awesome Knockback damage.

5 Nico

Marvel's Midnight Suns nico

Nico Minoru might be the least well-known character on the Midnight Suns roster. However, she is one of the most powerful. Although a damage-dealer at her core, Nico works best as a damage-heavy support, with some of the best heals in the game. Her ability kit has random chances to cast spells that have different potential outcomes — whether it be an amount of damage, a certain attribute, or triggering a secondhand reaction.

Making her considerably more difficult to master than most other superheroes, Nico’s RNG can be frustrating but is needed to prevent her from being too overpowered. Nico can wipe out the entire map of enemies and heal her allies to completely full health in one turn with some good luck of the draw. HerLegendary card is called Crack the Sky, and it spends all Heroism points to do big damage to that same number of enemies (randomly chosen, of course).

4 Captain Marvel

Captain Marvel is secretly one of the best characters in the game. Acting as a tanky damage dealer on the battlefield, Carol Danvers is similar to both Iron Man and Hulk because she’s at her best after several rounds into the start of a match. In other words, it takes a while for Captain Marvel to stack up her cards and abilities enough to become an unstoppable powerhouse.

This is largely due to the mix of her abilities and her passive, Go Binary, which increases all damage and gives Carol a ton of Block. Supernova is her Legendary ability, and it’s one of the cheapest Legendary cards but gives an enormous, area-of-effect explosion.

3 Iron Man

Marvel's Midnight Suns iron man

Overall, Iron Man is the best straight damage character in the game. While he doesn’t have the highest damage or the best utility, his overall kit is the most effectively flexible in Midnight Suns. That means that Iron Man can naturally adapt to any context that a damage character can meet. Iron Man’s ego shows up in his playstyle, and his kit works best when a player has a full hand of Iron Man cards.

That’s why his passive, I’ll Handle This, which adds Redraw when a number of his cards are played in a single turn, is surprisingly useful in battle. Between Air Superiority, Surgical Strike, and his Legendary, Hellfire Beam, which shoots a Redraw-stacking beam, Iron Man can take on any mission practically by himself — but bring along a support, just in case.

2 Magik

Marvel's Midnight Suns magik

Magilk is the best character adapted from Marvel in Midnight Suns. Her unique kit works with her Limbo portals in such a way that it supports virtually every other character in the game, yet Magik is definitely not a support character and does considerable damage herself. What Magik has over everyone else is the ability to move enemies around the battlefield.

This is an incredibly powerful element to introduce to the game, and Magik’s cards and portals can lead to incredible, one-of-a-kind moves on the battlefield. Magik works well with every other character in the game as her portals can be used in unexpected ways, from setting up mass-enemy environment attacks to lining up enemies for “straight line” ally attacks.

1 Hunter

Marvel's Midnight Suns hunter

The Hunter is easily the best character in Midnight Suns due to their customizable flexibility. Being created specifically for the game, Hunter is customized by the player in both aesthetic and abilities. Hunter can get Light and Dark cards based on conversations and activities in The Abbey, and their card build reflects both sides with separate abilities.

Players can mix and match Hunter’s ability set up and take the character from a healing support to a very high damage dealer and even a tank. How they work on the battlefield completely depends on how a player builds and plays their personal Hunter. With three Legendary cards and all the variation possible their Light and Dark abilities, Hunter lets the player reflect themselves right into the game.
