Metal: Hellsinger Every Sigil, Ranked

0

After completing the first level of Metal: Hellsinger you’ll get the opportunity to start acquiring powerful enchantments known as Sigils. Unlocking Sigils requires you to first complete Torments, special levels found outside the main campaign that comes with unique, and often very difficult, challenges. You’ll unlock three Torments every time you complete a new Hell. Similar to the main campaign levels, Torments get increasingly more difficult as you progress, however, the Sigils they award also get better and better.

Although they’re not mandatory for completing the game, Sigils are very useful and you should try to collect as many of them as possible. There are only seven different types of Sigils available in the game but each of them has three tiers of power; the higher the tier, the more powerful the enchantment. This list will rank all the Sigils at tier three to keep things interesting.

7 Last Breath Aegis

You can unlock the Last Breath Aegis by completing Death’s Edge Torments. The Sigil gives you increased damage when your health reaches critical levels. At tier three, the Last Breath Aegis lets you deal 100% more damage. That’s certainly nothing to sneeze at, but it still doesn’t take away from the fact that this is arguably the weakest of all the Sigils in Metal: Hellsinger.

Metal: Hellsinger works a bit like Doom in that you can gain health by performing finishing moves on enemies. There are also plenty of health pick-ups on every map. It’s generally quite easy to stay at full health in the game, which makes this Sigil a bit pointless. If you like living on the edge and are intentionally trying to stay at low health for the extra damage, then yes, this is a great Sigil. But for the average player, the Last Breath Aegis isn’t going to be very helpful.

6 Boon Momentum

Boon Momentum can be unlocked by completing “Relic Thief” Torments. Just as its name suggests, this Sigil allows you to build up boon hit streaks faster; much faster if you upgrade the Sigil up to tier three. You can reach the first boon very quickly even without the Sigil but getting to the remaining three is quite challenging. Boon Momentum speeds up that process.

The problem here isn’t the Sigil itself but rather the boons. Unlike weapon Ultimates and all the other mechanics that give you an edge in Metal: Hellsinger, boons are pretty weak. Sure, every extra bit of power helps, but it’s not worth taking up a Sigil slot just to speed up boon hit streaks. After all, you only have two Sigil slots to work with. No point wasting them on below-average Sigils if you can help it.

5 The Perfectionist

You can unlock The Perfectionist by completing “Slaughter Mastery” Torments. The Sigil increase the Fury you gain when performing Perfect attacks by 30%. Fury increases your damage output and allows you to listen to the songs in all of their glory when it’s at max level. Fury plays a vital role in Metal: Hellsinger so you’ll definitely want to get as much of it as possible from wherever you can. But is The Perfectionist worth taking up a Sigil slot? Well, maybe.

The thing you need to remember about this Sigil is that it doesn’t do anything unless you can land those Perfect hits. This makes it highly situational for a lot of players. Not just that but there are other ways of quickly getting your Fury up, including other Sigils. The Perfectionist is certainly not a bad Sigil, but there are a few better options out there.

4 Streak Guardian

Streak Guardian is another Sigil that does exactly what it says on the tin. Namely, it preserves your hit streak even when you get damage or perform attacks off-beat. This can occur up to four times at tier three. If you take damage more times than that, the hit streak resets as per usual. When that happens, the Sigil resets as well. You can unlock Streak Guardian by completing “Killing With Rhythm” Torments.

In essence, Streak Guardian helps make Metal: Hellsinger a less punishing game. This can be either a good or a bad thing depending on how you look at it. Streak Guardian is very useful during your first playthrough but gradually becomes less valuable with every subsequent one. Once you become good at staying on beat, you will no longer need to rely on it. But until then, Streak Guardian is quite a helpful Sigil. Not quite as good as the remaining ones, though.

3 Ghost Rounds

Unlocking Ghost Rounds requires you to complete “Weapon Trickery” Torments. Ghosts Rounds can be an extremely powerful Sigil in certain situations as it basically gives you free attacks. With this Sigil equipped, you can attack up to eight times after switching weapons without using up any ammo. The Sigil seems to have been specifically designed for Vulcan, a crossbow you can only shoot twice before you need to reload it. Without this Sigil, Vulcan is almost unusable during most encounters.

Ghost Rounds is a very solid Sigil, but it does suffer from a few weaknesses. First off, there are only three weapons in the game that require reloading. If you’re using Vulcan, you automatically need to fill up the other slot with either the pistols or the shotgun. But by doing that you would be missing out on the incredible Hellcrow. The other issue is that the Sigil doesn’t work with empty weapons. So you better make Vulcan isn’t out of ammo when you switch to it because otherwise the Sigil is useless. At the end of the day, Ghost Rounds is better than most Sigils, but it still has some big limitations.

2 Unyielding Fury

The best Sigils are the ones that don’t require you to do anything special in order to activate them. Unyielding Fury, which is unlocked by completing “Giantslayer” Torments, is one of those Sigils. In the great words of Todd Howard, ‘it just works.’ The Sigil prevents your Fury from dropping below a certain threshold and at tier three, that threshold is 4x. You still need to reach 4x before the Sigil becomes active, but once you do, you won’t lose the Fury multiplier regardless of how much damage you take, or how many times you attack off-beat.

Fury is your most important resource in Metal: Hellsinger so having a Sigil that guarantees at least 4x multiplier at all times is very useful indeed. As an added benefit, you’ll automatically start with some Fury in place whenever you enter a new level. There are no real downsides to Unyielding Fury, however, the Sigil simply acts as a safety net and doesn’t provide any benefits to players who can keep the Fury multiplier up without any help.

1 Ultimate Sovereignty

And at number one we have the one and only Ultimate Sovereignty, the best Sigil in Metal: Hellsinger. You can unlock this one by completing “Ultimate Mastery” Torments and it’s the final Sigil you’ll be able to get your hands on. The developers were definitely saving up the best for last here. The Sigil passively charges your Weapon Ultimate abilities simply by carrying it around. The charge rate is 2% per second at max level, meaning you can get a full charge in less than a minute. And that’s without doing anything.

Ultimates are very powerful so being able to activate one every 50 seconds is pretty insane. Perhaps a bit overpowered, even. Realistically speaking, you’ll activate them much more often than that because you benefit from the passive charge rate in addition to the usual means of filling up the Ultimate meter. It is worth noting, however, that Ultimate Sovereignty only applies to the weapon you’re currently wielding. But even though it doesn’t charge all your Ultimates at once, this is still hands down the best Sigil in the game right now.
