Celebrity Masterchef fans tuned in on Wednesday night for the latest instalment of the BBC One cooking challenge but were let down with the line-up.

Taking on the challenge were The Wanted singer Max George, TV presenter and entertainer Dave Benson Phillips, radio broadcaster Remi Burgz, comedian Shazia Mirza and award-winning comedian and broadcaster Terry Christian.

However, after Gregg Wallace and John Torode introduced them to the show and set them on their first task, viewers took to their Twitter accounts to express their disappointment.

@cjkgal noted: “Hmm, I’m not keen on this latest bunch of so-called celebs. #CelebrityMasterChef.” (sic)

@MartinBalls6 commented: “#celebritymasterchef non celebrities.”

@SandyofSuffolk commented: “#CelebrityMasterchef I have no idea who any of these ‘celebrities’ are.”

@ScouseLakes quipped: “Of course we know who you are…’ OH NO WE DON’T! #CelebrityMasterchef.”

@stryder444 said: “I’ve heard of two of them. #celebritymasterchef.” (sic)

Despite not knowing who they were @AmyJoanne__stuck it out and praised: “I only know about 3 of these ‘celebs’ but oh well it’s Masterchef so I’ll still watch #celebritymasterchef #MasterChefUK.” (sic)

The first task saw the celebrities take on under the closh where they were given a mystery item and were challenged to make it the star of the show.

Before unveiling his item, Max joked that he hoped he didn’t have any vegetables, before unveiling a butternut squash.

Not trying to be too ambitious, Max decided he was going to make a soup with sourdough bread and croutons, which left John and Gregg impressed with his simplicity.

In the second round, the group were asked to make a three-course dish which saw Shazia come out on top with her ‘Ode to Birmingham’ curry dish, which saw Gregg unable to stop eating it.

Unfortunately for Dave, he was eliminated from the competition and said of his time: “I will be watching with the rest of the nation… with a takeout.

“A little bit sad but in light of what I cooked I can understand why I am going home. No doubt Mrs Phillips will see this and think ‘Well right, you need to do some more cooking in the house’.”

Celebrity Masterchef airs Wednesday’s from 9pm on BBC One.
