The most recent lore trailer for Marvel’s Avengers sheds light on the story and skills of The Winter Soldier, also known as Bucky Barnes. The new trailer also explains how developer Crystal Dynamics crafted its own version of the notorious Marvel hero, who will join the Avengers on November 29.
Marvel’s Avengers recently welcomed a couple of iconic faces from the Marvel universe to its character arsenal, including Hawkeye, Black Panther, and Spider-Man. The action-adventure title is now preparing to give players a chance to assume the role of The Winder Solder in the upcoming update. Although leaked data suggested that She-Hulk would be the next playable character, the ruthless assassin will be the next to take up the Avenger mantle in the co-op action game.
Just days before the release of the 2.7 update arrival, Crystal Dynamics has shared a new lore trailer focusing on the comic origins of the Marvel anti-hero, which explains how Bucky became subject to the KGB and rose as The Winter Soldier. The recent video also explains Marvel’s Avengers take on the character, shedding light on the Bucky Barnes narrative crafted for the title.
The story begins with Bucky Barnes finding himself without a purpose after hearing the news of Captain America’s death. That’s when S.H.I.E.L.D Director Maria Hill contacts the distraught hero to give him a new assignment, finding and rescuing Inhumans. Adamant to fulfil his duty, the vengeful assassin ventures into a new journey to find the missing Inhumans to rescue them from imprisonment. With questions regarding the Cap’s death in mind, Barnes begins pursuing answers until he is led into Monica’s trap, which allows her to take him captive and reactivate The Winter Soldier using the protocols that grant mind control. The Avengers come in and rescue their disoriented ally to receive his aid in future missions, which are focused on finding the location of the protocols.
The gameplay bits in the trailer also reveal how The Winter Soldier performs on the battlefield. His set of moves includes slamming his enemies into the ground with his metal arm to gunning down robots with his assault rifle. The trailer notes that the new hero will come with “exciting combat” along with an “all-new mission chain and awesome cosmetics.” Based on the official notes on the update, the upcoming hero will allow players to build him as a “ranged marksman” or “an expert hand-to-hand combatant.”
Similar to previous heroes, Bucky comes with “a set of new animations, full skill tree, and heroic abilities” as well. And those who would like to find out more about the character’s history in the Marvel universe can watch the animated video, which landed earlier this week. The video features the voice of Bucky himself, as he tells his story and explains how he transformed from Captain America’s sidekick to a deadly assassin known as The Winter Soldier.
Marvel’s Avengers The Winter Soldier update also comes with a new omega-level threat mission that will take players to AIM’s Cloning Lab, which has been taken over by MODOK, the revived nemesis of The Avengers.
