Mages revealed a brand-new visual novel titled Iwakura Aria. Its story will be set in 1966, when Japan was in the middle of rapid post-war economic growth. The company will release the game for Nintendo Switch in Japan in late June 2024.

The story of Iwakura Aria will focus on the eponymous character, the frail daughter of a foreign trade company owner who almost never leaves her mansion. However, the visual novel will instead make the player take the role of Kitagawa Ichiko, an orphanage-raised girl who got hired as a housemaid in the Iwakura mansion.

The visual novel will feature a sketchbook where Ichiko channels her drawing hobby into sketching things she has seen across, which will also play major parts in the storyline. She can also visit all the rooms inside the mansion to gather clues about the family’s secrets. The game will have nine endings that show different futures for Ichiko in the year 1999. An additional path to Another Ending that delves further into the mysteries will also be unlocked if the player has reached the True Ending.

A promotion trailer for the new visual novel has also appeared on Mages’ Japanese YouTube channel:

Mages has been known for releasing the Science Adventure series that include Steins;Gate and Anonymous;Code, as well as visual novels based on anime franchises like The Quintessential Quintuplets and KonoSuba. This new visual novel will take an entirely different approach from all aforementioned titles with multiple art styles ranging from paintings to sketches and “Real Fantasy & Suspense Adventure” as its official genre. However, the Science Adventure and Memories Off series composer Takeshi Abo will return to produce the soundtrack for this title.

Iwakura Aria will be available for Nintendo Switch in Japan on June 27, 2024.
