WARNING: SPOILERS FOR JOHN WICK: CHAPTER 4 AHEAD. John Wick: Chapter 4 has had a record opening weekend making $137.5 million worldwide. This arguably makes it Keanu Reeves’ second-best ever after The Matrix Revolutions’s $201.4 million.

Yet at the end of the new movie, John Wick appears to be dead from his gunshot wounds, with the final scene showing his grave next to his wife. But is it a fake? That decision may well have been riding on how well Chapter 4 did at the box office. And according to Lionsgate, Reeves’ hitman isn’t going away any time soon.

The studio’s Motion Picture Group Chair Joe Drake told Deadline today: “We’re not ready to say goodbye to Keanu with this franchise. It’s what alternative there will be. There’s a lot of different things that we can do. I’ve seen this movie five times in the last week. I can see the way that the audience moves him.”

By the sounds of it, Lionsgate will be planning on resurrecting Reeves’ assassin for John Wick: Chapter 5. But in the meantime, the star has already wrapped on spin-off movie The Ballerina, which is set in the six-month gap between Chapters 3 and 4.

Ana de Armas is the titular star bent on revenge from the murderers of her family. According to Lionsgate the prequel film – which also co-stars the late Lance Reddick as Charon – will be released in Spring or Summer 2024.

Meanwhile, three-part miniseries The Continental is likely set for an autumn 2023 release. The 1970s prequel follows a Young Winston and features Mel Gibson in a mystery role.

John Wick: Chapter 4 is out now in cinemas.
