Has the ship sailed on Skull and Bones’ PS4 and Xbox One versions?

If you’re wondering whether or not Skull and Bones is still coming to PS4 and Xbox One, you’re in the right place. Here, we aim to give you a definitive answer on whether or not Ubisoft’s pirate ship combat title is still coming to Microsoft and Sony’s last-gen consoles, and why it might actually have been canceled for these platforms.

Skull and Bones PS4 & Xbox One Versions Explained

At the time of writing, it’s unclear whether or not Skull and Bones is still set to release on Xbox One and PS4 consoles.

Currently, players can head over to the official Skull and Bones page on the Ubisoft site and sign up for future playtests, but only on PC.

This suggests that the console versions of the game are either not ready for playtesting yet, or possibly that Ubisoft has scrapped the PS4 and Xbox One versions of the game in favor of releasing Skull and Bones on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S instead.

It could also just mean that Ubisoft wants to playtest on the one platform in order to minimize the work the development team has to do for rolling these out.

Why Might the PS4 and Xbox One Versions Be Cancelled?

Given the game was announced at E3 2017, and we’ve not seen a whole lot of it since, fans are rightly concerned about the current state of Skull and Bones, and whether it will still come to the PS4 and Xbox One at all.

While we’ve yet to get an official statement from Ubisoft, it does appear that the Xbox One and PS4 versions may have been canceled. With the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S having now been out for nearly two years, Ubisoft may not deem the development costs for the last-gen platforms to be worthwhile.

Skull and Bones has also been given a complete rebranding in recent years, suggesting that the game has seen dramatic changes to its contents. This could mean that it’s too demanding for the last-gen consoles, given the original PS4 and Xbox One released back in 2013.

Further, as discovered by Twisted Voxels, Skull and Bones was recently rated in Brazil for PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S and Google Stadia, but PS4 and Xbox One were absent.

We’ve reached out to Ubisoft for confirmation on what platforms Skull and Bones is currently slated for, and will update this post as soon as we get a response.

That’s everything you need to know on whether or not Skull and Bones is coming to PS4 and Xbox One.
