The Final Fantasy XIV 6.2 patch brought in loads of awesome new features, the biggest of which is the Island Sanctuary. This plot of paradise lets you create your own homestead and slowly grow it into a peaceful farming empire. If you’ve ever been playing FFXIV and thought “why can’t this be more like Stardew Valley?” then this is the questline for you.

We’re sure you want to get farming and gathering right away, so we’ll tell you how to unlock your island and how to travel to and from there once you’re set up. If you want to see what else the latest patch has in store, then check out our Final Fantasy 14 patch notes piece.

How to unlock Island Sanctuary – Final Fantasy XIV

First thing’s first, you need to have completed the main scenario quests for Endwalker, which means that, yes, you do need to own that expansion to get here. Assuming you’ve done that, head over to Old Sharlayan (X:11.9, Y:11.0) and speak to the Clueless Crier. The level requirement for this is just Level 1, so you shouldn’t have any problems getting the “Secret Sanctuary” quest. There are no job or class requirements either, and you don’t need to unlock any Disciples of the Hand or Land either, you can just dive right in no matter what.

Once there you can leave at any time, but if you want to return, you’ll need to go to Lower La Noscea (X:24.9, Y:34.8) where Baldin will be waiting to take you back over.

How to visit other islands – Final Fantasy XIV

Island Sanctuary 1

Part of what makes this such a cool feature is that you can invite up to 16 other players onto your island to have a look around and hang out. What’s more, you can visit other islands even if you haven’t got through the Endwalker questline. The only requirement for visiting another island is that you’ve finished the main scenario quest “The Ultimate Weapon” from patch 2.0.

First, the island owner needs to mark their island as available to visit, and they can choose whether they want to open it to friends, party members, and/or free company members. Then you’ve got to go back to Baldin and you’ll be able to choose what island you want to see.
