While animals have been in LEGO Fortnite since it first launched, players can finally tame livestock in the new Farm Friends update. This patch adds animal farming to the game alongside some useful new items and animal types.
There are some confusing limitations on the animal farming system in LEGO Fortnite, though, so make sure you have a plan ahead of time before you start bringing random animals back to your main village. You’ll need to construct a new building to house your livestock, and taking care of them requires patience and attention.
How to Tame Animals in LEGO Fortnite
To tame animals in LEGO Fortnite, you need to craft Animal Treats. You can unlock the recipe for Animal Treats by constructing an Animal House, which is a new type of building that houses livestock. You’ll get the recipe for an Animal House when your Village reaches level two, which is very early in the game.
Once you have an Animal Treat, find a wild animal and feed it to them. Once they’ve eaten it, you have an unlimited amount of time to bring them back to your village. Be careful and make sure your route is peaceful, however. If you encounter enemies along the way, the animal could get scared off and you’ll have to start the process over again.
There are several ways to get an animal back to your village, so get creative. You can design a custom vehicle to drive them back to your village, you can use a Fishing Rod to pull them manually, or you can build protective cages for them to keep them safe while you clear the path forward. You can heal animals with Animal Treats if they get hurt, so be sure to bring extra.
Once you’ve reached your village with a new animal friend, interact with an Animal House to assign them to it. Animals take up recruitment slots in your village. The Farm Friends update increases the village recruitment cap to 10. Three village slots are reserved for villagers, three are reserved for animals, and four are available for either. If your village is already too crowded, you may not be able to keep too many animals.
How to Care for Animals in LEGO Fortnite
Once you’ve captured some animals for your LEGO Fortnite farm, you’ll need to take care of them if you want them to produce resources. Chickens will produce feathers, cows will produce milk, sheep will produce wool, and pigs will produce mushrooms. All animals will also produce fertilizer as well.
Animals need to be happy or else they’ll leave your farm. You can keep your animals happy by giving them attention often. Pet them, feed, them, and emote next to them to show your appreciation. If you need to go off on an adventure, you can assign one of your LEGO Fortnite villagers to care for your animals while you’re gone.
