How to get the mount, minions, and all weapons

The Yo-kai Watch collab is special as although it’s a returning event, it hasn’t reappeared in almost half a decade. Here’s everything you need to know in our comprehensive Yo-kai Watch event guide.

How to start the Yo-kai Watch Event in FFXIV

To start the event, head to the Steps of Nald in Ul’Dah. You can get there by teleporting to the Aether Crystal of the same name.

Before participating in the event, you need a Yo-Kai Watch, which you can grab from the Poor-heeled Youth pictured above. After you’ve spoken with the Youth, travel to the Gold Saucer and talk to the Wandering Executive. He’ll ask you to travel to Bentbranch Meadows in the Central Shroud, which has an Aetherite Crystal of the same name.

Speak to the three marked NPCs near the Aetherite Crystal, then head west to the quest marker. Interact with the Strange Vessel, then return to the Executive in the Gold Saucer.

Once you have the Yo-kai Watch, equip it, and you’ll earn medals for participating in FATEs. These special medals are required to unlock everything during the event, including the exclusive Mount and Minions.

The only prerequisite for joining the event is your character must be at least level 15.

What is a FATE in FFXIV?

Let me quickly explain a FATE so we’re all on the same page. FATEs are events anyone can join and randomly appear as you explore the world.

You don’t have to wander aimlessly, as they appear with a purple icon on the map (pictured above).

Most FATEs are straightforward and quickly finished if a few players participate. These events are also level-locked, so you’ll usually have to ‘Sync’ your character level to join. Fortunately, this is easy; press the Sync button when prompted to join the FATE.

It’s worth noting that you need to actively contribute to get rewards from FATEs. You can’t just show up, but you’ll be fine if you land a few kills, heal squad mates, or trigger your Tank Stance.

You can find the required FATEs in the following locations:

  • Heavensword: All Regions
  • Stormblood: All Regions
  • A Realm Reborn: Thanalan, La Noscea, The Black Shroud

Also, remember that some of your abilities will be unavailable on your Hotbar if you’re in a low-level FATE.

How to get Yo-kai Watch Minions in FFXIV

You can trade the Medals you earn for any Minion you like during the event. When you start the quest, you’re given a single Medal and can pick your first Yo-kai. There are 16 other Minions, so you’ll be grinding a ton of FATEs if you want them all! Head to the Gold Saucer and speak to Nohi to cash in your medals.

Minions cost 3 Medals each, and you’ll need 48 Medals if you want them all. Even if you don’t like how the Minions look, they are required to obtain the Yo-kai Watch exclusive weapons.

How to get the Whisper-go Mount in FFXIV

If you’re like me, the grand prize from the Yo-kai Watch event is the Mount. Fortunately, it’s easy to obtain. Once you’ve obtained 13 of the 17 Yo-kai in the event, you can call them to your side. At that point, you’ll also gain access to the Whisper-go Mount.

How to get Yo-kai Watch Weapons in FFXIV

You can earn a Yo-kai Watch Weapon for every job in the game, excluding Reaper and Sage. These cost a slightly different currency than usual. Instead of regular Medals, you require specific Legendary Medals

You can earn these by completing FATE’s with your Yo-kai Watch and a Yo-Kai Minion equipped. The catch is each weapon is tied to a specific Minion.

Here’s a list of every Minion in the event and what job/weapon they are tied to:

  • Shogunyan: Paladin’s Sword and Shield
  • Jibanyan: Warrior’s Axe
  • Hovernyan: Dark Knight’s Claymore
  • Lord Enma: Gunbreaker’s Gunblade
  • USApyon: Monk’s Fists
  • Venoct: Dragoon’s Spear
  • Kyubi: Ninja’s Knives
  • Zazel: Samurai’s Katana
  • Whisper: Bard’s Bow
  • Robonyan F-Type: Machinist’s Musketoon
  • Damona: Dancer’s Chakrams
  • Blizzaria: Black Mage’s Rod
  • Manjimutt: Summoner’s Grimoire
  • Lord Ananta: Red Mage’s Rapier
  • Komasan: White Mage’s Cane
  • Komajiro: Schollar’s Codex
  • Noko: Astrologian’s Globe

How to find Legendary Weapon locations in FFXIV

Legendary Medals are rare and can only be obtained from specific areas that are tied to your weapon. Fortunately, this information can be viewed in the Yo-kai Medallium. You can access this from the Duty menu in the bottom-right corner of the screen. Choose Collection and then Yo-kai Medallium.

Pick the Yo-kai that matches the weapon you’re after, and you can see the FATE areas you need to visit (pictured above). You need five matching Legendary Medals for the Yo-kai Watch exclusive weapon.

In my experience, you’ll always get a regular Medal if you’ve contributed in a FATE, but Legendary Medals have a much lower drop rate. I typically get one every 5-6 FATEs, but your mileage may vary.

The event is live from April 24 until Dawntrail launches, so plan accordingly. I recommend securing the Mount first, then the Minion that goes with your favorite job. Once you have the weapon you’ll use the most, the pressure is off, and you can grind for lower-priority gear.

Are there any new items in the FFXIV Yo-kai Watch event?

As this is a returning event, you may already have some of the rewards if you’re a veteran player. Fortunately, you can still grind for the Yo-kai Watch Framers Kit, which is new for 2024.

The Framers Kit is only available to players with all 17 Yo-kai Minions. Once you have them, you can buy the kit with MGP from Nohi at the Gold Saucer.

Can I earn Yo-kai Watch rewards after the event expires?

We can’t say for sure, but items are typically unavailable when an event finishes. Items from events sometimes appear in the shop later, but it’s extremely unlikely for a collab event.

It’s not the answer you want to hear, but you’ll likely have to wait until the event returns in the future. Nobody knows when collab events will come back, but it will probably be a while after Dawntrail launches.

On that note, I highly recommend you try out the Final Fantasy 16 Crossover Event before it leaves on May 8. Even if you’ve not played Final Fantasy 16, it’s a fun mini-quest with a brutal boss battle.
