How to fix frame rate drop issue in XDefiant

If you’re having a strange frame rate drop issue while playing XDefiant, I know how you may be able to fix it. You’re not alone, as I too ran into this problem which made playing this online first-person shooter unplayable.

XDefiant: How to fix frame rate drop issue

While playing XDefiant, you may suddenly find that the main menu and even the game itself is incredibly laggy. This happened to me recently where every other second my game would freeze, and not even restarting my PC would fix it. Luckily, I figured out that you can fix the frame rate drop issue in XDefiant by updating your graphics driver.

Although there may be other solutions to this problem, this is the one that worked for me. If you have a Nvidia GPU, you may require a graphics driver update. Through GeForce Experience, I discovered that on May 21 (the launch day for XDefiant) Nvidia released version 555.85.

Once I could download and install the update, I ceased to have any stuttering or frame rate drops. Since XDefiant can run at 120 FPS, nobody wants to have frame rate issues such as this one.

Even if you don’t have a Nvidia GPU, check whether your AMD or Intel GPU requires a graphics driver update. AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition is the software you’d use to keep up with AMD graphics driver updates, and you can find the latest Intel graphics driver update by googling it.

I noticed players online flocking to Reddit to post about similar lag issues, which could easily be caused by the same problems. Some people suggested uninstalling and reinstalling GeForce Experience, but I wouldn’t advise that since other comments said that they had trouble reinstalling it.

If you’re still experiencing lag or frame rate drop issues, you can try a few other safe options:

  • Verify files: Try verifying the integrity of your game files by finding XDefiant in Ubisoft Connect, selecting the three dots, and selecting “Verify files”.
  • Leave fullscreen: Perhaps going into Fullscreen mode instead of Windowed Fullscreen makes XDefiant run slower than usual. You can change this in the settings of the game itself.
  • Reinstall XDefiant: As a last-resort option, try uninstalling and reinstalling the game. Perhaps a fresh install will stop these issues from happening.

There are many other issues that players are running into while trying to play XDefiant, such as the “Playlist not found” error.
