The Moss Rock is a rock that has been in the core games in the series since the Hoenn region (it is missing in the regions of Galar and Paldea). In Pokemon Legends: Arceus, the Moss Rock is used to evolve a Pokemon, and can be encountered very early on in a playthrough.

What is the Moss Rock Used For?

The message that appears when players approach the Moss Rock in Pokémon: Legends Arceus

As mentioned above, the Moss Rock has been in the core games since the Hoenn region. While it may seem to be just an old rock, approaching it causes an odd message to appear. The message states, “the surface is covered with moss. Touching it feels good somehow”.

The rock’s importance may not be known to new players, but it can be used to evolve the Pokemon Eevee into one of its many evolutions, Leafeon. While it may seem that approaching the rock does nothing, you may notice that the evolve option on your Eevee is glowing. To do this, open up your menu and go to your Pokemon team. If the Pokeball beside your Eevee is glowing yellow when standing by the rock, then it is ready to evolve. In order to evolve Eevee in Leafeon, you must have a high friendship level while standing by the rock.

Once you have your Eevee with a high friendship level, and you’re ready to set out for the rock, travel to Obsidian Fieldlands. Once there, the Moss Rock can be found in the southwest corner of the Heartwood area. This area is west of the Grandtree Arena. You can find the rock in an open area surrounded by trees. You can ensure it’s the correct rock by approaching it and seeing if the “investigate” prompt appears on the screen.

While in the current generation of games Leafeon is evolved using the Leaf Stone, the Moss Rock has been a staple in the older generations. It is a great way to ensure that Leafeon has a place on your team.
