Throughout your long hours of grinding the main story of Elden Ring, you may encounter some bizarre NPCs. Some NPCs, like Ranni, for example, are so pivotal to the story that completing their quests may just unlock one of the game’s hidden endings. Others may not have a huge role to play in the story, but can be a great way of obtaining some good loot whilst progressing through their various quest lines.
Boc the Seamster is one such NPC that does not play a huge role in Elden Ring’s story, but encountering him will surely bring you good fortune. This strange character is a demi-human, and completing his quest line will allow you to Alter equipment without having to pay the standard 500 rune fee. But he does not provide any new or alternative Alterations. Boc is on a mission to change his looks, and by progressing through his quest line, you will help him do that via one of three options. But first, you will need to find him.

First Location – Start The Quest
You can find Boc for the first time near the big hammer-looking telescope in Limgrave. Teleport to the Agheel Lake North site of grace, then follow the road to the south and examine the zone at the southeastern side of the telescope. Boc will call out to you. If you attack or roll into the trees in the area, he’ll appear and reveal he was turned into a tree by a spell. If you speak to Boc several times, you’ll trigger a quest with him where he’ll ask you to wait until he finds proper rewards for freeing him.
Second Location – Fight The Demi-Human Boss
Next, you’ll meet Boc in the Coastal Cave in Limgrave, next to the site of grace. You need to defeat the Demi-Human Chief boss in the cave, get the Sewing Needle, and give it to Boc to progress through his quest line.
Third Location – Get The Gold Sewing Needle
The third time you’ll meet Boc is at one of four different Sites of Grace. These are the following: the Lake-Facing Cliffs, East Capital Ramparts, East Raya Lucaria, and Altus Highway Junction. After this, there appears to be little to do for Boc. But this isn’t the final part of his quest line. If you find Boc at any of these Sites of Grace, he can Alter equipment free of charge.
In order to trigger the next part of his quest, you will need to obtain the Gold Sewing Needle, which can be found at the Church of Vows in Eastern Liurnia. You can take it to Boc, but initially, he will not accept it, not unless you buy at least one piece of legendary armor crafting from Boss Remembrances. You can find such an item from Finger Reader Enia, located at the Roundtable Hold. Once you have completed these steps, head to Boc, give him the Gold Needle, and he will alter the legendary armor you obtained. You will then need to speak to Melina about Boc at a Site of Grace to progress further.
Ending The Quest Line
When you encounter Boc at a Site of Grace (usually at the East Capital Rampart Site of Grace), you can talk to him about the Erd Tree, in which he will express his desire to be reborn by Rennala. Once you reach the end of the conversation, you can choose one of three options to conclude his quest line. Firstly, you can do nothing. Doing nothing will cause him to disappear, supposedly on his own journey to becoming beautiful.
The second option is to give Boc a Larval Tear. Doing so will cause Boc to express his gratitude and disappear once you leave the area. He will inevitably die and can later be found reborn in human form at the Site of Grace in Raya Lucaria Grand Library. The last alternative option is to use the Prattling Pate “You’re Beautiful” item in his vicinity. This curious item can be found at Hermit Village. Using the “You’re Beautiful” item in front of Boc will trigger the conclusion of his quest line, and he expresses his gratitude for doing so.
