Hogwarts Legacy features tons of magical Wizarding World elements like spells, flying, and awesome wizard combat. Accordingly, another thing that the game features are magical beasts, and finding them isn’t always the easiest endeavor. From Unicorns to Puffskeins, Hogwarts Legacy lets players keep numerous magical creatures for protection in their Vivariums, but they’ll have to find them first. These beasts give the player key resources that will ultimately be used for upgrades and crafting, especially into the late game.

One of the rarest beasts in the game is the phoenix, a red ashy bird that gives off precious feathers used to upgrade players’ wands to the maximum level, among other things. Getting the phoenix into your Vivarium involves several quests, good beast maintenance, and paying attention to some important details along the way.

Phoenix Rising

Finding your one-and-only phoenix starts with Deek, the House-Elf that hangs out in your Room of Requirement. Make sure to complete Deek’s questline first, “The Elf, The Nab-Sack, and the Loom” and, after a few previous quests concerning other beasts in the Vivarium, players will get the “Phoenix Rising” quest from Deek. The first instinct when starting the quest will be to fly up to the point in the mountains, however the area is only accessible through the ground level.

So, fly as far as the quest marker allows on the main map and hop down to the ground where the path meets the mountain. On foot, follow the quest marker into the mines to stay on the right path. Enemy goblins and a few trolls will litter the path and players can take them out or choose to use Disillusionment to sneak through. Make sure to unlock the Floo Flames marker when coming out on the other side of the mines for the return trip.

Head into the cave entrance surrounded by warning signs and continue following the quest marker. Next, use a force spell or a fire spell, like Incendio, to break through the blocked path. Defeat some more enemies along the way and break through the next barricade ahead. Continue making your way down the path and fighting poachers.

The phoenix will now appear, but it will initially fly on as players will have to continue to fight and progress through the mountain. In the final large room, cast Revelio to expose a weak point in the far wall, break through it, then continue to climb up the path. At the top, the phoenix will be waiting, and players can simply approach it and catch it for their Vivarium.

How To Pet Phoenix

In order to properly groom your new phoenix, you’ll have to provide it shelter, grooming, and food. Select the Beast Feed and Beast Petting Brush from your list of spells and assign them to your preferred buttons, like any other spell. If you’d rather set it and forget it, use the Conjuration spell to craft a Beast Feeder, which automatically keeps beasts fed. As long as the phoenix is well-fed, grooming it for the first time in a while will yield feathers.

Phoenix feathers are a rare resource and the only way to upgrade a witch or wizard’s wand to the maximum level in the game. Speaking of rare, players can find phoenix feathers randomly for sale throughout the land, but they are sparse and difficult to rely on. Also, don’t accidentally sell your phoenix to the Magical Beast shop in Hogsmeade! They may rise from the ashes, but your one phoenix in the game is gone if you sell it.
