How to do follow-up attacks in Honkai Star Rail

When you battle enemies, combat takes place in turns. For the most part, a character’s SPD rating determines when they will act in relation to an enemy. However, there are exceptions to that rule.

A follow-up attack is a special attack that sometimes occurs in the middle of battle when certain conditions are met. To do a follow-up attack, take an action that naturally leads to one. The specific action varies depending on who is on your team. This is yet another factor to consider as you aim for the best team comps in Honkai: Star Rail.

Not every character has a natural follow-up attack available. March 7th is an early example of one that does. I keep her in my team for that reason. One of her most useful abilities applies a protective shield to an ally of your choice. When an enemy hits that ally, March 7th counters with Ice DMG because of her Girl Power talent. This is considered a follow-up attack. The effect often triggers multiple times each turn, since you’ll tend to shield allies that enemies have specifically marked with a target.

Popular character Seele also has the Resurgence talent. It lets her take an extra turn to hit a second enemy when she defeats her first target. Other characters with follow-up attacks include Clara, Himeko, and Jing Yuan. Any time you recruit someone new, check out their talents to see how you might incorporate them into a useful team.

Follow-up attacks are especially useful when you explore Herta’s Simulated Universe. As you progress, you claim blessings along the various paths. Many of these blessings enhance follow-up attacks, allowing them to deal substantial damage. A team loaded with characters who can perform follow-up attacks allows you to make quick work of normally challenging foes, hitting harder than current characters levels suggest they should. Don’t sleep on follow-up attacks.
