How To Build Hunter Revenant Guide Mods Aspects

0

Destiny 2 features a myriad of subclass setups to choose from. More recently, Bungie created the Darkness subclasses, the first of which being Stasis. This guide will cover the competition for Stasis Hunter, and how to set up the strongest Revenant builds in the game. These builds can be used in some of the hardest content in Destiny 2 to date (the infamous Grandmaster Nightfall strikes for instance) with great success.

Revenant, and Stasis as a whole, is unlocked by completing quest lines after the Beyond Light campaign. Upon unlocking Aspects, you must complete a Crucible, Vanguard or Gambit quest for a Memory Fragment. These Memory Fragments can be traded at the Exo Stranger on Europa for a Fragment of your choice. These quests can sometimes be quite the grind, but they are well worth the reward. Here’s how to make your Revenant as powerful as they can be.

The Crucial Parts Of A Build

Builds in Destiny 2 typically have five core parts: Aspects, Fragments, Armor Pieces, Mods, and your choices from the title’s wide selection of formidable weapons. While no specific weapons are prerequisites for the builds found here, there are a few great options, which will be discussed.

Aspects

Revenant has four Aspects to choose from:

Aspect

Effects

Touch of Winter

Your Glacier, Duskfield, and Coldsnap grenades have enhanced functionality. 2 Fragment slots.

Grim Harvest

Defeating slowed or frozen combatants creates a Stasis Shard for you and your allies. Stasis Shard pickup provides melee energy. 3 Fragment Slots.

Shatterdive

Activate midair to quickly descend and shatter nearby targets on impact. 1 Fragment slot.

Winter’s Shroud

Dodging slows nearby enemies. 2 Fragment Slots.

While each Aspect has its uses, these builds will focus on the first two, Touch of Winter and Grim Harvest. Touch of Winter will boost the Duskfield grenade by increasing its size and forming a small Stasis crystal in the center which is handy for the builds ahead. Grim Harvest’s Stasis Shards, meanwhile, play right into the recommended Fragment choices and provide much-needed melee energy.

Shatterdive is not helpful here, as fast shattering isn’t required for either recommended build. Winter’s Shroud is not needed either, as slowing foes isn’t an integral part of them.

Both Shatterdive and Winter’s Shroud offer valuable boons nonetheless, though, and the Revenant approaches suggested here aren’t the only ways to build the subclass. Feel free to customize to your own preferences.

Fragments

Each class has access to the same Stasis Fragments. While it would be impractical to list all of them, here are a few of the best ones that players typically opt for:

Fragments

Effects

Whisper of Chains

When near frozen enemies or Stasis crystals, you take reduced damage. +10 Recovery.

Whisper of Shards

Shattering a Stasis crystal temporarily boosts your grenade regeneration. Shattering additional crystals refreshes this effect. +10 Resilience.

Whisper of Rime

Grants a small Overshield on Stasis Shard pickup for 10 seconds. Additional Stasis Shard pickups refresh the timer and add to the overshield.

Whisper of Bonds

Defeating frozen targets grants Super energy. -10 Discipline and -10 Intellect.

Whisper of Torment

Taking damage grants grenade energy.

Fragments are the engine behind every build. They often help with ability regeneration and other valuable stats, meaning optimizing Fragment picks is vital for a strong build.

Exotic Armor

Hunters have access to a good number of powerful exotics. However, the two that will be focused on here are Fr0st-EE5 (Frostees) and Assassin’s Cowl. These exotics bring a lot to the table and are core parts of their respective builds.

  • Frostees: these Exotic boots will give you ability energy when sprinting, and when paired with certain Fragments, you can litter the battlefield with Duskfield Grenades and freeze anything that spawns in.

  • Assassin’s Cowl: the Withering Blade melee will grant you invisibility on kill, creating an icy assassin feel to the build, which is incredibly fun to mess around with in easier content.

Mods

With the recent changes to the mod system that came with Destiny 2: Lightfall, many builds saw drastic changes to how they worked, and the two builds here are no exception. Here are some top mods right now that will feature in our builds:

  • Hands On
  • Grenade Kickstart
  • Elemental Surge
  • Charged Up
  • Stacks on Stacks
  • Firepower

Mods are a core part of any working build, so optimal setups are essential for a functional setup.

Competition

A Hunter Holding Strand In Destiny 2

With the reveal and addition of Strand, Stasis had been played down as weaker due to Strand’s potent ability to Suspend targets. However, despite how strong certain Strand builds are, Hunter Strand isn’t the strongest compared to the powerful and safer option of Revenant. It’s recommended that you take the time to decide which Darkness Subclass you prefer nonetheless, as Strand does definitely have potential with its remarkable Fragments.

Suggested Build 1: Frostees Duskfield Revenant

The Exotic Leg Armor FR0ST-EE5 from Destiny 2

  • Stats: Resilience, Discipline and Mobility.
  • Aspects: Touch of Winter and Grim Harvest.
  • Fragments: Whisper of Shards, Whisper of Durance, Whisper of Bonds, Whisper of Torment, and Whisper of Bonds.
  • Exotic Weapon Choices: Winterbite, Wish-Ender, Osteo Striga, or Ager’s Scepter.
  • Abilities: Gambler’s Dodge and Duskfield Grenade.

The first build will use Frostees as the engine though which ability cooldowns are dropped. Most notably, this is how uses of the all-important Duskfield grenade are refreshed.

This build is all about getting Duskfield grenades constantly. With Whisper of Shards and Whisper of Torment, grenade uptime is already super high, and when combined with Frostees, Duskfield grenade’s cooldown can drop to below 10 seconds. This build can be made even better by using some mods. Here is the recommended setup:

  • Helmet: Heavy Ammo Finder, Heavy Ammo Scout and a Siphon mod matching your weapon of choice.
  • Arms: x3 Grenade Kickstart.
  • Chest: Resistance Mods matching the enemy’s damage type.
  • Legs: x2 Innervation and Orbs of Restoration.
  • Cloak: x2 Bomber and Reaper.

Fit stat mods in wherever possible on your armor to reach maximum Resilience and Discipline.

With this full setup, you can freeze the battlefield constantly, and no enemy will even be able to shoot back as they’ll be frozen solid for much of the time. Spamming Duskfield grenade off cooldown is the key, and keeping track of ability cooldowns is something to learn too.

Suggested Build 2: Assassin’s Cowl Shuriken Revenant

Destiny 2 Hidden Menu View of the Stasis Hunter Subclass Screen

  • Stats: Resilience, Mobility, Strength.
  • Aspects: Touch of Winter and Grim Harvest.
  • Fragments: Whisper of Refraction, Whisper of Rime, Whisper of Conduction, Whisper of Hunger, and Whisper of Fractures.
  • Exotic Weapon Choices: Monte Carlo, Ager’s Scepter, or Winterbite.
  • Abilities: Gambler’s Dodge and Duskfield Grenade.

The second recommended build is more oriented towards straightforward, accessible content, as it isn’t quite as competitively minded as the first. It’s perhaps even more fun to run, though. This build focuses on the invisibility and healing powers of Assassin’s Cowl and what they can do when optimized. With this build, Orbs of Power will spawn from every Shuriken kill you get, and your melee ability uptime will be through the roof.

This build focuses on cycling between Gambler’s Dodge and Withering Blade to keep melee uptime as high as possible. The setup also grants remarkable survivability through Whisper of Rime’s overshield and Assassin’s Cowl’s healing and invisibility. Mods can help take this build even further in most content:

  • Helmet: x2 Hands On and Dynamo.
  • Arms: Heavy Handed and Melee Kickstart.
  • Chest: Resistance Mods matching the enemy’s damage.
  • Legs: x2 Invigoration and Orbs of Restoration.
  • Cloak: x2 Outreach and Distribution.

With this full setup, constant shurikens will fly, and enemies will be slowed constantly. Ensuring you always have a Stasis Shard or powered melee kill primed is essential for survivability.

Between the two build options provided here, players have a great starting point for both competitive and more casual (yet still very effective) Revenant play. These suggestions can be complemented and customized to your own preferences as your skills with the subclass grow.
