The Sons Of The Forest has been on early access and available to play for just over a month and is currently receiving frequent updates from developers to improve the overall quality of the game whilst enhancing the player’s experience. With some players left baffled as to why you can collect sea turtle shells and not have any use for them, developers proceeded to fix this issue.
In the latest update, the developers of the title implemented a use for the sea turtle shells in the form of a very useful rain catcher. This crafted piece of equipment is a must-have for any well-built base, and we highly recommend that all players build one. This allows rainwater to be collected in the turtle’s shell, which is fixed to a constructed frame from sticks.
Perks Of The Rain Catcher
The rain catcher is the perfect addition to all player’s hideouts and camps. Not only does this eliminate the need to worry about water sources when constructing your camp, but it also eliminates the travel time to and from a freshwater source if your camp isn’t near one. If the player has already found the 3D printer, the flask can be printed and also used in combination with the rain catcher to stow water on the player’s person. Perfect for when traveling long distances.
This rain catcher is easy and compact to construct and requires few resources, making it perfect for newcomers to add to their first camp.
How To Make The Rain Catcher
As previously mentioned, the rain catcher requires very few resources and is very easy to construct. Here’s what you’ll need to build one yourself.
- 16x Sticks
- 1x Sea Turtle Shell
It is important to note that there are two variations of turtles in the game — freshwater turtles that are found in lakes (Where the water is drinkable) and sea turtles, which are found on most beach shores and also contain meat, a perfect source of nutrition and even more reason to hunt for sea turtles. These turtles are the ones featured in the images above.
Once you have collected sufficient sticks and turtle shells, proceed to make your way back to the spot you intended to build the rain catcher. Simply access the construction menu and look for the Rain catcher option. Once selected, a skeleton of the rain catcher will appear and is free for the player to place where they like. Once the skeleton has been dropped in the place where the rain catcher is going to be built, proceed to press the interact key to build till it is complete.
Once the rain catcher is built, all you have to do is wait for mother nature to provide you with the freshest water source in the comfort of your camp. Check back the next day to see if your first batch of rainwater is ready.
Build several rain collectors to always have water ready.
