How Long Is Alan Wake 2?

0

Alan Wake 2, the next installment in Remedy’s Connected Universe and the Alan Wake series, is set to launch on October 27, 2023. After waiting 13 years for a sequel, some fans want a little assurance that they’re getting the hours of entertainment that they paid for.

Each year with the release of a new game, one yearningly simple question pops up: “How long is it?” Well, if you’re planning on buying Alan Wake 2 but not before knowing if it’s worth it or not, Here is the gist on how long it would take to complete Alan Wake 2, from the game-makers themselves.

Alan Wake 2’s game length

Remedy’s Communications Director, Thomas Puha, confirmed in an interview that players are looking at over 20 hours of gameplay in Alan Wake 2. This means Alan Wake 2 will take twice as long to finish as the first Alan Wake — or even Control! Though 20 hours seems a bit on the short side for modern games, this would actually be Remedy’s biggest game yet. Remedy is known for making their games focus on quality over quantity with the major driving force being the narrative. This is why fan-favorite titles like Alan Wake 1 were around 10 hours long, and Control was a bit longer at 12 hours.

This time, however, creative director Sam Lake is looking to mix the pot. He has previously mentioned in an interview that they need to “find ways to do longer games because a lot of people are looking at it from a money perspective,” meaning those people decide on buying a game depending on how many hours of content they can get out of it. Therefore, to make Alan Wake 2 worth the price tag of $60 on PS5 and $50 on PC, Remedy has made the game longer by making some changes to the franchise.

This time, the plot is made up of two stories side by side with separate protagonists. You get to play as Alan Wake like in the original, who’s been stuck in the Dark Place for 13 years, trying to get out in vain. There’s also the new addition of FBI agent Saga Anderson, the game’s second playable character, who’ll be investigating eerie murders around the town of Bright Falls. Both characters will have their own set of missions and their stories will be playing simultaneously, adding to the content.
