Hitman 3’s Year 2 Freelancer Update Has Been Delayed – GameSpew

Hitman 3’s Freelancer update has been delayed, so you won’t get to fill your safehouse with weapons just yet.

Sure, that’s not the only reason we’re looking forward to the assassination game’s Freelancer mode, which was revealed to be part of the game’s Year 2 content, but it’s a big factor. In, fact we’d pay good money to have an additional “weapons” wall, which we could fill with every potentially lethal in-game item. Murdered someone with an inflatable banana? Stick it on the wall.

Aside from giving 47 his own safehouse, the Freelancer update will also deliver semi-randomised contracts, tasking you with discovering who your targets are. In short, it’s a way to make Hitman 3 infinitely replayable, in theory at least. However, developer IO Interactive has confirmed it won’t be arriving till the second half of 2022, instead of its planned Spring release.

“We’re taking some extra time to tighten the mode up and improve several elements that we think will greatly improve the gameplay experience,” the company states. Could the mode be delayed again? It’s entirely possible but given that’s free, as far as we know, and that the vanilla version of Hitman 3 is still a joy to play, it’s not the end of the world.

The good news is that July will see the release of a new map, Rocky (formally known as Ambrose Island) and, while a release date was never specified, it has apparently been brought forward. We’re definitely looking forward to exploring this new murder playground, if we can stop ourselves from yelling “AAADRIIAANNN!!” every thirty seconds.

Hitman 3 is available on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S/X, Switch, PC and Stadia.
