Henry Cavill stopped by this year’s Cinemacon convention for theater owners to discuss his role in Guy Ritchie’s latest film, The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare. While there, though, he also got the chance to chat about the Highlander reboot he’s going to star in.

The remake of the Christopher Lambert cult classic is still a ways away, heading for a 2026 release, but the former Man of Steel was able to tease a few things that fans can expect. They “are going deep into the meaning of these characters and their various trials and tribulations,” he shared (via Popverse). Cavill also admitted he was definitely a fan of of the original movie “for better or worse.”

As for the swordplay involved, Cavill, who also starred in Netflix’s The Witcher for three seasons, hyped up the action for Highlander. “If you thought you’d seen me do swordwork before, you haven’t seen anything yet.” The remake will be helmed by John Wick’s Chad Stahelski.

The original Highlander film centered around a group of immortal fighters, who can only die by severing their head, leading to centuries of battling one another for supremacy and gaining the ultimate power. The first debuted in 1986 and was directed by Russell Mulcahy and starred Lambert, Roxanne Hart, Clancy Brown, and Sean Connery as Lambert’s Connor MacLeod’s Egyptian mentor. The film, while not an initial huge success, found an audience on home video and developed a cult following, and spawned four sequels–the last one being made for TV in 2007.

The franchise also spun off into a television series featuring Adrian Paul as Connor’s cousin Duncan, and a short-lived animated series.
