Production has begun on Season 2 of House of the Dragon. The series, based on George R.R. Martin’s Fire & Blood, is set 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones and follows the story of House Targaryen.

Ryan Condal, co-creator, showrunner, and executive producer of House of the Dragon, expressed his excitement for the series’ return, stating, “We are thrilled to be shooting again with members of our original family as well as new talents on both sides of the camera.”

The cast for Season 2 of House of the Dragon includes Matt Smith, Olivia Cooke, Emma D’Arcy, Eve Best, Steve Toussaint, Fabien Frankel, Ewan Mitchell, Tom Glynn-Carney, Sonoya Mizuno, and Rhys Ifans, with returning cast members from Season 1. Milly Alcock and Emily Carey, who portrayed the younger versions of Rhaenyra and Alicent respectively in the first half of season 1, will not be reprising their roles in the upcoming season. Condal confirmed this to Variety last fall, stating that the characters are not part of the story being told in the upcoming season, at least for now.

The return of Mizuno, who plays Mysaria (the White Worm) might come as a bit of a surprise. At the end of Season 1, it was hinted that she died after her house was set on fire. Clearly, that’s not the case.

The creative team behind House of the Dragon includes Martin as co-creator and executive producer, Condal as showrunner and executive producer, and other executive producers such as Sara Hess, Alan Taylor, Melissa Bernstein, Kevin de la Noy, Loni Peristere, and Vince Gerardis.

With production now underway, fans eagerly await the upcoming season, which is expected to deliver more thrilling battles, political intrigue, and dragon-centric adventures in the world of Westeros.
