Good Morning Britain viewers have hit out over the rolling Britney Spears coverage on the ITV news programme on Tuesday morning.

Hosts Richard Madeley and Kate Garraway delved into Britney Spears’ tell-all memoir after its midnight release with a former friend of the popstar’s who said he could not forgive himself after falling out with the 41-year-old.

The book, named The Woman In Me, details Britney’s troubled relationship with her father, sexism within the music industry and her romance with Justin Timberlake.

Britney’s book also details her struggles with fame, her views on motherhood and the full details of her conservatorship.

Kate kept telling viewers she would be discussing the revalations within the memoir which prompted viewers to lash out on Twitter.

Daisy fumed: “Turning off, can’t cope with Britney Spears, attention seeking Andi Peters, Kate Garraway and Richard Madeley.” (sic)

Ben penned: “Thought #GMB was a news show, most of us don’t care about bl**dy Britney.”

An annoyed Scott wrote: “When did #GMB become Good Morning Britney?”

Tony Calder said: “I’m determined to say something positive about @richardm56 and @kategarraway oh, what’s Britney got to do with the news @gmb?”

While Britney was the top story on Tuesday’s instalment of the ITV programme, Shamina Begum’s citizenship and the latest on the Israel-Palestine conflict was discussed.

Paul Martin was held captive by Hamas in 2010 and held for a month was invited onto the programme.

He survived two mock executions and described the horrific experience during his time on the show.

“I was held in an overground prison, a secret prison run by internal security,” he began. “After a while, they explained they had to have me executed which was not a pleasant piece of information.”

He said there were a team of interrogators and was not sure if he would be tortured into signing a confession, which he refused.

Good Morning Britain airs on weekdays between 6am and 9am on ITV.
