What they find may not be to their liking, however, as the harsh realities of war complicate the goals of father and son. The quest is fairly long, with some tough enemies and puzzles. So, here is a simple guide to getting through Groa’s Secret in God of War Ragnarok.

The Strond

Kratos will start the quest with Atreus and Tyr in The Strond. Read the blue Rune Read on the wall, then proceed up the painted platforms. Jump down to the Lore Marker, and don’t miss the red chest behind some breakable jars behind. Next, continue back up the platform Kratos dropped from. Then, squeeze through the crack. Atreus will mention he can hear a big animal somewhere distant.

Drop down the left-painted platform to find a Nornir Chest with an Idunn Apple. Back up the main path, and keep climbing. Coming to a clearing, there is Odin’s Raven on the tree to the left. The main new mechanic of the quest, Twilight Stone, is introduced where the Leviathan Axe gains velocity by bouncing off of these purple, crystal-looking stones.

Throw the axe at the stone to the left to ricochet it into the barricade. Fight some Wretches, the little lizards, but before moving on, jump down the platform wall to the left. Behind some breakable objects, Kratos will find both a Legendary Chest, which contains the Light Runic Attack, Skadi’s Edge, and a Lore Scroll. Back on the main path, white painted symbols will indicate the area to climb up.

Tyr will join up again, and ahead, Kratos will encounter the first battle with Light Elves. Dispose of them and lift a large stone with a prompt to move on. Another Nornir Chest lies ahead but can’t be opened until later in God of War Ragnarok’s questline. Kratos and Tyr will spin the wheels to open the enormous door; simply follow the suggestions of Atreus to open it.

Light Of Alfheim

Upon reaching the next purple Twilight Stone, aim the Leviathan Axe and throw with the angle that will open the next door. After jumping past a gap with the Blades of Chaos, Kratos will get his first glimpse of the Light of Alfheim. The events of God of War (2018) are the reasons for Kratos’ slight obsession with the light, and players can see this throughout the rest of the quest.

Keep moving to the right and open the red chest before getting the correct angle of the Leviathan Axe on the Twilight Stone to the left side. Go through another door, where the next group of Light Elves needs to be beaten. Light Elves are the first enemies that can charge attacks in the game, so Kratos learns to double-tap L1 to interrupt blue-colored attacks.

After the fight, follow Tyr across with the Blades of Chaos and grab the gold chest to the left before heading along to the right passage. Another gold chest is around the corner, and, continuing up the stairs, jump down the first platform to the left. Off to the right, it’s not obvious, but an Odin’s Raven is hidden behind a metal gate. Throw the axe with the proper angle at the Twilight Stone on the left side to get the raven.

Keep exploring this area, and don’t miss the Lore Scroll and the Legendary Chest at the very bottom. It holds the Light Runic Attack, Hades Retribution. Get back to the main path above and head up the stairway. At the top of this section, look to the far right for a place to jump across, and Kratos will find one of Kvasir’s Poems. Hit the Twilight Stone at the right angle to break the crystal to open the next gate.

Another round of Light Elves will try to take Kratos down, give them a swift beat-down, and head through the door at the top of the stairway. Ahead, jump off to the left and, before spinning the wheel to continue, open the circular door to the right. In the next room, pull the chain to expose the Twilight Stone.

Throw the axe and grab the Legendary Chest at the bottom for the Hilt of Gram, a relic. Back in the main room, spin the wheel down. Then throw the axe to make the Twilight Stone above spin at the correct angle to break the blue crystal and open the door of light.

Dispose of some Nightmares in the next room and head through the corridor. Another one of Kvasir’s Poems can be found on a table to the right. Go through another door and fight some more Light Elves. Break off a metal cap ahead and hop down to the right to grab another red chest.

On the main path, break another metal cap and jump down and across. Kratos will have to swing a Twilight Stone to get the right angle for breaking the blue crystal. Swing across and open another Legendary Chest. Then, simply turn around and open the gold gate for a shortcut back to the mission.

Ascend The Light Well

Climb up the wall in the little room off to the right, and a very large room with several Twilight Stones will appear. This is the first time Kratos can use the stones’ ricochet in combat, and landing a Leviathan bounce off an enemy makes short work of the Light Elves. A prompt will have Kratos push over a huge statue to make a Light Bridge for crossing.

A Nornir Chest is ahead, but first, head right and jump down to grab a red chest. Atreus can shoot some Soundstone and expose Twilight Stone to open the Nornir Chest, which has a Horn of Blood Mead. Make your way around the right side and fight some more Light Elves. Another of Odin’s Ravens is in the back left corner of the room.

Open the next door and expose the next puzzle room. Have Atreus shoot the Soundstone, climb the right side and jump to the left side with the Blades of Chaos. Grab the gold chest down the hall before shooting more Soundstone at the back of the large statue. Swing the statue left. Throw the Leviathan Axe at the exposed target on the back of the statue. Next, swing the statue to the right and throw the axe at the Twilight Stone above.

Swing the statue left again, and it will fall down to the first level. Hop down, then jump back up the other side to the right. The statue’s shield across the way is made of Twilight Stone and will give Kratos the right angle to throw the Leviathan Axe and clear the path ahead. Through another door, continue up the platforms to a large room showcasing the Light of Alfheim.

Next, have Atreus shoot the Soundstone to the right and use the Blades of Chaos to swing across. Grab the blue Lore, a Rune Read, on the wall and jump to the next platform for a red chest. Head back to the main area and shoot the Soundstone, just right of the stairs.

Tyr will help with the angle, and after throwing the axe at more Twilight Stone, take the elevator up. The large room at the top will have a door at the top of the stairs. Head through and continue upwards through another door.

Ahead, Atreus will enter Groa’s prophecy and, after the cutscene, take advantage of Sindri’s shop to the left. Fight more Light Elves, then open the next door, and swing across. Kratos will battle more enemies while jumping down and following Tyr. Make your way down and across, and more foes will spawn. Keep heading downward, following Tyr, until the fight with Alva starts.

Alva Fight

God of War Ragnarok alva fight

Alva is a Light Elf and the main boss fight in the quest, Groa’s Secret. It has melee, ranged, and charged attacks, with several that are difficult to counter. Foremost, make sure to interrupt the charged blue attacks by double-tapping L1. Alva’s charged attacks are devastating if landed. Next, make sure to parry or dodge her combo attacks, which usually come in sets of three.

Also, her x-shaped red, un-blockable attacks come in threes and are best dodged sideways. Use Atreus’ arrows and try to get a stun with the Leviathan Axe or Blades of Chaos for an advantage. An R3 execution prompt will show up once Alva is low enough health, and make sure to pick up the loot off the ground.

Mystic Gateway

After the fight, follow Tyr down the main path. Grab the gold chest on the right side, then swing over a gap. Open the door to the left. Kratos will fall ahead and fight the first group of Dark Elves in the quest. Continue through the Light and Dark Elves, who are fighting each other and Kratos. Climb the painted platforms and follow Tyr and Atreus to fight the Elves that spawn along the way.

God of War Ragnarok groa's secret complete

Next, squeeze through a crack, fall down some more, and keep fighting. Climb up the gross-looking wall until you see the portal to Yggdrasil. Tyr will go through on his own and the fourth major quest in God of War Ragnarok, Groa’s Secret, is complete.
