Clarkson’s Farm returned for a second outing last month with the cast from the first series back for more. This included fan-favourite Gerald Cooper, who is a specialist in construction and plays an important role on Diddly Squat Farm. While he may have a thick accent, which leads to communication issues on Jeremy Clarkson’s show, he has years of experience working on farmland.

WARNING: This article contains spoilers from Clarkson’s Farm.

The Grand Tour and Top Gear host Jeremy Clarkson first purchased 1,000 acres of land, including Curdle Hill Farm, in 2008.

At the time, the fields mostly grew a rotation of rapeseed, barley and wheat and were farmed on a contract basis by a local villager called Howard.

When Howard retired in 2019, Jeremy made the decision to take on the job himself, playing a more active role with the land he renamed Diddly Squat Farm.

Of course, he couldn’t do it by himself, so kept hiring those who knew the farm best, including Gerald Cooper.

How old is Clarkson’s Farm star Gerald Cooper?

In an interview with Oxford Mail two years ago, Jeremy confirmed that Gerald Cooper was 72 years old.

So it is thought the Clarkson’s Farm star is now around 74 but his age hasn’t meant him slowing down when it comes to the hard graft.

He has been working on the land for five decades and while it may not always be easy to understand what he’s saying, Gerald knows what he’s talking about.

Jeremy praised the pensioner for his work while giving fans a bit more information on his life which he keeps very private.

“It doesn’t matter if you can’t understand what he’s talking about, because he’s usually talking about Manchester United”, Jeremy told Oxford Mail.

“He’s fantastic. We’ve known each other for a very long time.

“He’s 72, also never been outside the village, but has worked on this farm for 50 years.

“He’s a great dry stone-waller, which is a dying art.”

Gerald has become such a popular member of the Diddly Squat Farm team he has now got his own fan account on Twitter.

Followed by more than 3,400 users, the bio reads: “Fan account for the legend that is Gerald Cooper from Clarkson’s Farm. Available for security work.

“Can speak two languages. I am not the real Gerald.”

Kaleb Cooper is another beloved member of the team who many assume is related to Gerald as they have the surname.

But despite this and the fact they work on the farm together, there is no familial connection between Gerald and Kaleb.

Kaleb confirmed to The Sunday Times: “People always ask if I’m related to Gerald (Cooper).

“It’s possible, way back, but we’re not immediate family.

“There are a lot of people called Cooper in these parts and we’re all probably related if you go back far enough.”

Clarkson’s Farm is available to watch on Amazon Prime Video.
